I think it may get a CF roof - the E90 M3 came out a year behind the E92 and the cost of re tooling for the sedan shape was considered too great, with this car looking like entering production first and being engineered this far out and with BMW recent developments in CFRP i think there is every possibility of it having a CF roof/parts.

again with this? dude, read around, that's just tape - the mirror turn signal is just a thin strip - something like the F20 mirrors

I6's are far more smoother---there is a reason why BMW, Merc, stuck with them for a long while. And why Nissan's RB series I6's and Toyota's I6's are damn near legendary for their smoothness and Hulk like strength.

I guess the real argument for the V6 is the configuration is more compact than a I6, and they can just shave the first 2 cylinders off of the V8 for a cheaper engine.
60 degrees V6 is inherently balanced, as it is inline 6. 90 degree V8, 72 degree V10.

False. Only a flat six and a straight six have primary balance for six bangers. You're also wrong about the V10, which is not inherently balanced. But a 60 degree V12 or a flat 12 are.

Yes, I was wrong using the term inherently balanced. I was actually referring to a need for balancing shaft and the angles I listed do not need them to make the engines smooth. However, you are right regarding inline and flat 6 they are in fact completely balanced.

As far as the V12 any angle is balanced since we have each bank as a inline 6 which is balanced on its own. Therefore making any angle in the V12 just as balanced.

Good point, didn't think V12's all the way through, but you're certainly correct.

What? No! Never! The F8x will not have the power dome. Why would it? There is a functional reason why the E9x has it. They literally couldn't fit it in safely without it. That's because it's a 4L V8! This is going to be a much smaller V6. No dome necessary. Furthermore, the intake ducts in the hood will also be unnecessary.

BMW could surprise us with a smaller twin turbo v8 from the M5.

Wonder what BMW will think of that when they see these pics.
After checking out the cars lines that is the very next thing I saw. Whether or not BMW sympathize with the driver and perhaps being hounded by photographers I would bet he will get a lecture for that.

The F series M3 will almost for sure have a CF roof and probably a trunk as well. Not sure much weight could be shaved off a similar design based on the aluminum hood in the E9X M3, but that might end up CF as well. I would hope they are painted externally and clear coated internally, except perhaps the roof.

The driver was not bothered by M, in Germany there are laws that prevent people from being secretly photographed without their permission so "spy shots" violate this law. Cameras on the roads for speed are permitted as you acknowledge this when you get a license. This is how it was explained to me anyways.

From what I was told most driving is now done at night, they hate being stalked but due to certain labor agreements not all testing can be done at night- if you have noticed there is a steady fall off of spy shots.... considering how many models are being developed. When was the last M6 spy shot? That car is nearly done with development.

The people I know don't care for the publicity and hate being at a traffic light and having someone walk around the car with a camera for many reasons- personal privacy, safety and just annoyance being some of them. It is not like you can get much from some of these images anyhow.

Interesting. I highly doubt it is illegal to take pictures of folks driving on public roads in Germany. Either way, two wrongs don't make a right and giving someone the finger is not exactly exuding a professional demeanor...

Is it possible that the F80 M3 will have slightly different headlights design and kidney grill?

Possible, but unlikely in my opinion.

With the current generation cars, the sedan and coupe both use the same front end design, which is derived from the 3 series coupe. With the new generation, I suspect that the M3 will share its front end design with the 3 series sedan, while the M4 will share its front end design with the M4. In other words, I think they are going to make the M3/M4 more distinct than the E90 M3 and E92 M3 are today, more along the lines of the distinction we see between the 3/4, 5/6, and M5/M6.

(And yes, I know the 4/M4 names are not confirmed, but its easier to write it that way.)

If you don't like the F30 front end, perhaps you'll like the F32 front end better. You may then be more inclined to go for an M4 Gran Coupe, assuming such a beast sees the light of day (I am convinced it will). You'll be waiting probably an additional two years beyond the F80 for that one though.
