tl;DR look is different because different people machined it and tolerances were probably laxed because the profile was fine either way.

Back when Maximum PSI was making crank hubs, their 2 pin version had zero issues at 1150 whp. The insane hub is extremely similar so its not farfetched to say it should be able to withstand the same stress levels.

This is from their website description

Our Single Crank Hub kits are designed and manufactured in Lithuania and made from a solid block of thermally absorbed, heat treated steel and milled on a 5 axis precision CNC machine to create what we believe to be the strongest crank hub kit on the market today!

Our crank hub is offered in a 2 pin and upgraded 4 pin design for those looking push their S55 to the limits while having greater peace of mind. Please keep in mind neither version has had a known failure with 1200+ vehicles on the road today and counting. Our 2 pin crank hub has also been tested up to 1000+ whp without issue.

This kit includes all the necessary components to successfully replace the stock OEM crank hub with our single piece crank hub. Our kit now includes Hardened crankshaft damper bolts at no additional charge.

Throwing my first post into the hat =). I just had my crank hub done by one of my local shops here in the Tampa Bay area and while they will install most of the brand name options, their head mechanic prefers the Insane 2 pin one due to its simple design and ease of install and they haven't had one fail as of date. My end goal is to be round the 700whp/640ishtq on upgraded turbos and Flex 93/E85 so I went with their recommendation.

Good to know thanks for the feedback. If you don't mind me asking how much did they charge you for the crank hub job.

You get what you pay for. Why are some hubs significantly cheaper than others? Cause they’re finding cheaper material and methods to do so.

The going rate I guess depends on your area. Go with a shop that’s done plenty, not the ones that do it cheapest. $3000-$4000
Seems to be the going rate depending on hub. Insane crankhub literally one of the OGs hub companies.

I know a shop in Orange County that has done more crank hubs than anyone else and will do it for $2,000 so I’m not sure if your comment of “going more expensive” applies in this case. However that is for Vargas which is slightly easier to install than pinned hubs.

I checked out 2 local shops before making the decision. One had their special at $3800 installed (oil change, etc included) while the other was running theirs at $3600. Another shop here in Florida’s has had a special before at $3199 installed and all three do them all the time.

I’ve seen one shop in Cali however do them for I believe <$2k…

Never said to “go more expensive.” But i do believe in you get what you pay for and $2000 for a hub install seems super low. Must be cutting corners somewhere. Some shops are now doing hubs without removing oil pan… which seems dumb since oil pans eventually leak and you pay twice as much to do it another visit.
