OP - Beautiful car, but as Steve says "All good things come to an end at some point" so relish in the fun you had with it and move on to the next. Do you think minus your mods, the vehicle would have been in as high demand to rent on Turo (for example OEM M4 vs. Modded).
Mods don't increase value and frequently decrease value. Anyone with a modified car should sell the parts and return it to stock before selling the car. No one should expect to get any value from aftermarket parts. You can't even get value for some factory options when selling a car.

I doubt anyone looking to drive an M4 via Turo cares if it has mods.
Exactly. Funny how people think mods, particularly cosmetic ones, add value...

OP sorry about your car. Glad the person driving was ok as well so no other problems were encountered. I hope it gets sorted out in a good way for you.

I get that you're making a dig at him/her because they were such a dick about it but the fact that you're also making fun of them because they drive a 328 isn't exactly great either.

He stated in an early post that he has several cars that he rents via Turo for income. Apparently the M4 generated 2k of income a month.

OP, my experience with a total loss is the insurer will determine fair market value based on year, mileage etc. They will also include factors such as registration fees. We had a car stolen years ago, it really sucked. You'll bounce back. It is an odd occurrence. For those talking about fire extinguishers you have clearly not been around an engine fire, all a small fire extinguisher will do is tease the fire and likely get you burned in the process of trying to put out the fire. The reality is once the fire is started its already over. They are very rare but I have been around several in my paramedic days. They go up very quickly.

Ya, I'm well aware how modding works, not sure how that was relevant to my post. He mentioned bringing in decent revenue for just renting out his car on a monthly basis, so was curious of the demand it was pulling.

I'm saying, let's say you want to go and rent a fast car on Turo (Porsche, BMW M, Mercedes AMG, Audi S/RS), a car with mods is probably going to be pretty exciting to drive vs. one that doesn't have mods, no? I can only assume there were performance modifications with the vehicle as well? I don't think someone is looking to just go and get groceries in an M4 for a few hours...that's a pretty intentional vehicle to rent with a purpose. Then again, I've never used Turo, so what the hell do I know, haha

[QUOTE=govad;23960891]This is absolutely false. My 2016 f80 was totaled on Turo last year and I was paid 13k above my payoff. Oh... and it was a lease.

You do understand that your personal experience has many variables correct? Insurance companies are not in the business of overpaying for claims. Because your situation worked out it doesn't mean that it will in all cases. You're using your payoff as a value, its not, it is the payoff. Some have equity, some have negative equity. The question is what was the fair market value of your car at the time it was totaled and did they pay more than fair market, your payoff is irrelevant.

Haha - woooow! First of all, I wouldn't be renting my modded M4 out on Turo. That's just me though. I can't imagine that stomach drop feeling of the text message following "what's wrong with the car?" Then a picture comes through of my M4 on the side of the road with flames blazing out from the hood! Sorry to hear about this man, really unfortunate.
