When I chose the SLS/E63/C63 calipers I had the pad shape in mind - I wanted the new pad to have the swept area as close to OEM F8x as possible. I do not know whether the RS7 caliper or any other would also accomplish this.

Hi elmerzasty
Conversion looks excellent and I hope it does live up to expectations. I can see you have not tracked with just the front 6 pot conversion but what are the initial differences on the street/road? With the set up retaining the standard from rotor/disc, is there a real need to upgrade the rears to a 4 pot caliper? From my experiences on track, it's clear to see that the discs are prone to heat soak, it's still a heavy car! So will retaining the standard rotors/discs but changing to the 6 pots get rid of this? I doubt it but what it's likely to do is improve initial bite and keep a firmer/better pedal feel when pushing. Is it not an obvious choice to fit the matching 4 pot rear callipers from the same Merc set up? Or is it more complicated at the rear due to the likes of the handbrake/e brake. Baz

EDIT: I have upgraded the rear to 4-piston setup with calipers that came off a Porsche Panamera. Pics in the first post.
Braking is MASSIVELY more efficient than with stock calipers. The apparent difference is in pedal feel and brake force modulation. With the stock calipers - which in my opinion lack rigidity - braking force was inconsistent with pedal force applied. With the monoblock 6-pots/4-pots it is just so easy to brake precisely, thus inspiring confidence and reducing the time during which the pads are "on their way" to disc surface. As to the issue of heat capacity, I can't say from experience since I have not tracked this setup, but in theory not much should change from stock, since rotors, tires and car weight remain the same. However, since pedal feel is greatly improved, it might help in braking in shorter "bursts" by reducing the time the pad is not working its 100% against the rotor (during pedal depression), and as a result, generate less heat. That is however my speculation at this point. Rears from the Merc will not work, since they use a narrow pad and do not have radial mounting holes. That is why I used the Porsche rear calipers. The e-brake on the F8x is not an issue since it does not utilize the calipers (it's a drum system). |

Great upgrade. I would think the physically larger caliper would help somewhat with heat dissipation, at least keep the fluid temp lower. I assume it was not possible to use the front oem caliper in the rear?

The rear setup weighs almost the same as stock.
The front setup adds an additional 2.1 kg (ca. 4.5 pounds) per corner, which is significant, but there is no distinguishable difference in handling or steering. While this is extra unsprung weight, it is not rotational mass and hence has less negative impact than, let's say, switching to heavier and/or larger wheels. |

calipers do not match the thickness of the brake disc.
front caliper disc designed for 36 mm thick used on the disc 30 mm rear caliper designed for disc thickness of 28 mm used on the disc 24 mm Pistons may fall rear brake shoes may fall out of the caliper :Помогите: |

Same we do in Moscow. I want to make it for the front breaks, and to leave the rear stock.
This is a regular Brembo calipers with 76mm pads. I'm not sure that there is a real need to change the rear ones, just better pads.

I ordered my front calipers and pagid rs29 76mm pads to cover all the stock rotor and will track this set up at the end of april. For the rear I left the stock caliper with EBC yellow stuff pads. I think this should work good both on track and on the street.

Brembo with Pagid RS29 76mm that will cover all the stock rotor. Will take my car back tomorrow. The weight of this rotor with connector is 100g lighter than stock, but pads are havier.
