Drivetrain malfunction error appeared and then disappeared on restart

Hey Guys

Today I was driving on the freeway and “drivetrain malfunction - drive moderately” error popped up. I stopped car after a couple of miles and the error did not appear on re-start.

Car has 29k miles. Recently serviced. Completely stock. Still under warranty. I did fill gas before driving today. Should I be worried If it doesn’t appear again?

The car is driving fine. No loss of power. I will get it checked by the dealership even if the error doesn’t appear again.

I am sorry i was just teasing you.

I think the safest bet is to drive the car to dealer without going into boost if you can or otherwise go get the scan codes from the closest mechanic you have

Best thing to do is scan the car to see what caused it.

Check the intercooler reservoir, same thing happened to me and it ended up being a cracked cooler.

So I checked under the hood. I notice these old dried up splash marks. I actually noticed them a week ago while cleaning the car too. I am not a mechanic genius and new to this car so any ideas looking at this picture?

Check both your coolant tanks, especially the one for the charge cooler. I had exact same symptoms and had a leaking charge cooler. Easy to replace if you’re out of warranty.

This. It's pretty clear the radiator expansion tank is seeping. Not sure if it would throw a code but they are known to fail. I'm keeping an eye on mine as it has a little residue along the seams although dealer did a pressure test and it passed.

Scheduled the service appointment for Wednesday. I can definitely see the residue/splash marks on expansion tank. Not sure if this can throw the drive train malfunction error. Car is still under warranty so if there is a problem with expansion tank or charge cooler, hopefully they will replace it. Fingers crossed.

I had the same warning popped up and went away after re-start my car. I brought it to the dealership and they couldn't find anything wrong.

But since you look under your hood, I will check mine too.

This happened to me a few times, usually when I go hard on the freeway. It would go into limp mode until I pull over and restart.

A buddy that was a mechanic said it may be my mass air flow sensor with a BMS intake running too rich or lean. I log the code once as 102002 on my JB4 rev kit.

Interested to know others experience.

No issues with the coolant level?

So I just got my car checked. They are telling me that a rock penetrated my front radiator and caused the antifreeze to leak. Need to change the front radiator and they are not covering it under warranty because it was damaged by an external object. I hope my insurance covers it.

Sorry to hear that buddy. At least we found the cause. Your comprehensive insurance should take care of that.

I saw this happen a lot at my old dealer. Hopefully it's not too expensive to replace. Thanks for the update.

My car would throw random drive train malfunctions a few times a month, but it would go away after a few seconds. It was an Air pocket in the coolant tank

You can burp the car, it's what I had to do after replacing mine.

It’s either the MAF sensor was damaged during reinstallation, the MAF sensor doesn’t seat/seal properly or it’s the location of the MAF sensor on the intake. Have you checked to see if any codes are stored?
