Rock in brake pads?

Got a weird humming noise when driving and getting more noticeable after 50km/hr. Any thoughts? Just got the car a week or two ago and the previous owner said he just replaced the brakes but don’t know what brand they are.

Ruled out driveshaft, I also see a very very very slight divot being made on the rotor on the rear wheels but not much on the front?

The brakes also feel mushy for “new”

SOUND CLIP

That’s not the typical sound of a rock being stuck between the rotor and brake shield. The rock sound is constant until the rock is removed. I hear a sound when the wheel starts to rotate but then it dissipates quickly.

So it’s actually consistent, may have dissapeared in the video. But going 180km/h on highway if I let off I can’t hear it and it’s fairly loud.

Take a screw driver and bend inward (away from the rotor) the brake shield around its circumference. If there’s a rock in there then it’ll usually fall out or go for a short drive and the rock will fall out.

So I actually drove the car pretty aggressively so now that you mention that it may not be a rock. Thinking brakes need to be replaced or re seated or maybe wheel bearing?

Remove the wheel and try to spin the rotor to get a better sense of where the sound is coming from. You could also remove the pads in 1 minute and then spin it.

Will do! I’ll probably inspect it this week. Hopefully it’s not wheel bearings 😭

Wheel bearing is likely; they are a common consumable on this platform. Check the hub for any abnormal play.

Quick update guys! The noise in the video was most likely just brake pad contact. Got the car on a lift and gave it a little gas. Turns out it was the rear driver side wheel bearing!

Nice! It’s always smart to track down noises, rather than upping the volume of the the radio, because you’ll never know if it’s a noise that will turn into a major problem.
