2018 M3 No Audio or Chime

Hey guys,

I haven’t driven my F80 since I washed the car a little over 2 weeks ago. Today during my drive I noticed there were no audio. I thought it was a CarPlay issue but my radio and Bluetooth are also affected. I decided to drive around with no seat belts too and there were no sound chines or warning. So I’m leaning towards audio related and not software.

Does anyone know how to go about in fixing this?

Thanks in advance!

Pull the black left trim in the left boot liner and see if you can see any signs of water around the amplifier underneath. You can get you phone down between the gap and take a photo. There is an issue where there is no water egress below the amp so water can pool and damage the amp.

A pressure washer under the back apron can cause it via the side vents under the bumper sides. The other issue is the area behind the rear tail lamp can gunk up and cause a back wash into trunk area. Also check your trunk lid seals.

Thank you for the reply! I will check the amp today and get back to this post. If the amp has shorted due to water, would I need to code anything if I purchase a used amp from ebay or is it directly plug and play? I was looking at different amp options too

Hey , sorry . But I haven’t replaced an BMW amp. I’ve gone aftermarket.

But there are post from people that have on f80 and f30 forums that have.

Amp repair is also an option btw.

Otherwise you have a couple of options in aftermarket and the kit will depend on if you have HK or hifi option car. EG , Helix Match , Mobridge ( I run one of these ) , Bimmertech that does plug in play versions of those two so preconfigured for Plug and Play.

I ordered a used AMP with HK from eBay hopefully that’s the fix. My car doesn’t show any errors for anything so fingers crossed! I couldn’t find anywhere if these needed to be coded however.
I looked at bimmertech options but for my vin, they only offer amp that’s $2K. Way out of my budget for audio haha.

Update:

I was able to fix the problem. Bought a used Amp on eBay and had the seller verify compatibility with my vin number. Took out the trunk liner and plugged it in. Started car to verify audio but wasn’t working so I checked fuse #123 in the trunks fuse box. Verified that was the problem, swapped to new fuse and glad to say audio works perfectly now.
