Considering X1 - Question about ride quality & OEM wheel choice (19" vs. 20")

Hey there!

Currently without a vehicle and considering leasing an X1. I just rented a Mazda CX-50 for a week and actually really liked it. It was the base model without turbo but it was still pretty fun to drive around town to run errands, etc.

The X1 lease prices aren't night & day more vs. the CX-50, so I'm considering an X1 if I'm going to commit to something for the next 36-39 months, although I'm not ruling out the CX-50 entirely.

This would mostly just be for running errands a couple days/week as I work from home and live in a pretty walkable neighborhood.

I've driven my ex's 2025 X3 a few times and I loved it but it's a bit larger than I need and more expensive. I drove a 2023 X1 once very briefly a couple of years ago - just for a few minutes when a friend let me drive his.

Anyway, I know the suspension/ride on the X1 is a bit stiff based on reviews. How stiff are we talking?

I absolutely cannot stand the stock 18" wheels so I'd be looking to get the optional 19" 867 or 20" 869i wheels instead. Looking at inventory of all the local dealers in South Florida on BMW's site, those are pretty much the only wheels they seem to order the X1 with anyway.

How different will the ride quality be between the 2? A short test drive only tells you so much. And that's assuming the tires aren't still overinflated from shipping (seems to happen a lot in my experience).

Would greatly appreciate feedback on ride quality for the 19" and 20" OEM wheel options! Thanks!!

Is took out an x1 m35 with oem 19’s for an extensive test drive in Chicago. Pretty bad roads all around. I didn’t find the suspension harsh at all. Then again, I didn’t find the 2026 RS3 with adaptive suspension to be harsh either.

Thanks. I definitely wouldn't be getting the M and I imagine the suspension changes play a big factor?

Any other opinions on 19" vs. 20" and how they might impact the ride? Would love to hear some different perspectives from various folks who've tried one vs. the other (or both).

Thanks!

I'm an idiot. I'm new here and just realized that I didn't post this in the X1 subforum as intended. I created a new thread over there. Sorry! Please feel free to close this thread mods.
