Use TireRack's recommendations. I was going to use a square setup of 255s, but dropping down to 245s will give you better snow traction but less dry traction.

I doubt you can go with 245 on the 437M rears. Too wide. A 255 is a stretch but would fit. Why don't you consider a dedicated set of wheels and tires? Go to 18" wheels (as long as you don't have CCBs). You can get a package from tire rack. I originally ran the BMW set of 640M with the 255 Contis. You might find a member selling off a set.

Thank you guys so much. Im not considering an 18 inch wheel for winter since i have a set of aftermarket wheels coming for the summer season. so 3 sets of rims seems an overkill. would the 255 be okay with the new england weather ?

I ran 255s no problem. But on 18" rims. The smaller sidewall of the lower profile may be too much of a stretch for the rears. If you are not forced to drive in real nasty conditions I would consider staggered matching the stock tire sizes. The important thing is a compound that handles the cold.

I have run stock size lm 32s on 437s for the past 3 winters. Several blizzards per year in Long Island and I've not been stuck yet. I figure they at least have 1 or 2 more winters left. Once these are shot though I will either downsize to 255f/265r or get a set of 18s and run square 255 or even 245. Thinner is better (didn't think about that years ago) but even stock gets me where I need it to go without issue. Tire rack seems to be the best source for figuring out brands and sizes. They do seem to suggest that 255 can run on stock rear 19s but I might do some more research or at least call prior to ordering.

I would also recommend ballast in the trunk for really heavy unplowed snow. Anything approaching 100lbs does wonders. Nick Murray has a great video about this with his prior m4.

+1

I've been running 255's (Blizzak LM-32) on 18's for the last three years and they've performed admirably.

(3 * 50 lb = 150 lb) sand bags in the trunk does help to get up a 45 to 60 degree grade road in the snow. With snow tires on the M3. A few slight slips going up, but momentum and traction kept the car moving. Conti tires (Dealer Recommended).
