CTEK comfort connect & extension
(putting this in general forum, let the mods decide where it ought to go)
For those who have not done this yet here's the install for the CTEK under-hood quick connect and 8' extension. I used the M8 eyelet set which worked just fine, but I think the M6 set would have been a snugger fit. I decided not to use the wall hanger kit, just screwed the thing to the wall. I'll add something else later to hang and contain the cables. |

used black tie wraps to secure it over the fender, unfortunately they're black and hard to see. One connector is above the wiper fluid filler cap and can't be seen in these pictures.

Good option here for those with a plug at the nose end of their garage space. I did a hard wire of this same pigtail harness in the trunk, coming up through the tool tray (actually snaps down into the slot for the wheel lock key perfectly) as my dedicated tender plug is at the tail end of my car.
Nice of you to provide pictures/walkthrough/tips of this process as well, A1 post.

Both terminals are TORX T50, only other tool needed is a pair of dikes to cut the tie wraps.
The extension connects midway between the two terminals and exits very nicely over the right headlight leaving plenty of clearance to close the hood. Extension easily reaches to the charger mounted on the wall. |

This was already covered recently in the Mechanical Maintenance forum: https://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...highlight=ctek. It's also been covered in other threads in the last 3+ years.
I posted these pictures in the same forum: https://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...9&postcount=19 Bottom line: Search is your friend...

I was wondering what happened to my question. Then SDM4 Posts a link. You guys wire the banjo connectors under the factory post. I did not think the posts could be removed.

Yes, both terminals unscrew quite easily using a T50 TORX revealing threaded posts that the pigtails slip right over. While I didn't bother actually measuring, it felt like the factory installed the terminals with about 15 lbs of torque.

Thinking of buying one of these...what would you guys say is the minimum amount of time not driving the car that one of these would be necessary? With winter coming in the north east. I'd bring it out once/twice a month max dependent on weather.

One benefit of mounting the charger on the wall at eye-level is that I can see the LEDs from 30 feet away at the pantry door. OCD requires that I check those lights at least twice a day. |

Thanks for the pics and info Poiseuille ! Used it to install mine and make a quick how-to video for others to find:
(Yes, I realize this hardly requires a video, but it's just what I do when tackling new things.) |
