Tire sling
Do you really need to wash tire rubber before putting tire shine on to prevent sling? What if you just let the shine dry for a couple of hours?

Now to your inquiry: “Just like any other vehicle cleaning solution and process, tire dressing must be applied according to the instructions with which it comes; otherwise, tire sling could result and undo a large portion of your detailing job.” “Even though tire shine might be one of the finishing touches you put on your vehicle detail, the wheels and tires should be the first things to be washed. Both the wheels and tires can and should be cleaned before applying tire shine, even if you do not intend to give your vehicle a complete wash and detail.” https://www.thevehiclelab.com/what-is-tire-sling/

Nope… it’ll see the track eventually .. not sure how often though. For now I just enjoy driving the car on the street. But I’d like to better understand the limits.
Guess I have to wash the tires :-/ |

Do it right and get a good tire cleaner and proper brush. It’s the same concept as trying to put any lsp on your paint. The cleaner it is the better it’ll adhere to the surface.

I’ve tried every single tire shine on the market and every single one flung. I then tried Adams Polishes Tire Shine for the first time this summer and I should’ve tried it sooner since I’ve been using every other product from Adams for years. When washing your car properly scrub your tires with a good tire cleaner. Once dry apply the tire shine with an applicator pad. Let it sit for an hour and that’s it. No sling. I’m very happy.

You want your tire dressing to adhere to the tire rubber. If your tire is dirty with road oils and grime then your product will sling off. When you've washed and scrubbed the rubber clean then the product can stick or bond better. It also takes less product to get a shine.
I prefer to scrub my tires clean and then that's it, no shine. I feel that tire shine collects grime faster than plain clean rubber.

I’ve had good luck with this stuff. No sling at all. Good pre-cleaning and tires stay nice and black. Not overly glossy which I like. It’s available at AutoZone only, I think for $11.99 (much higher on Amazon / eBay.

I use this meguires for the shining. I guess normal car wash soap and a tire brush should do the trick?

tire dressing binds to rubber if you don’t clean the tire well, the tire dressing won’t bind and it’ll sling you need to clean the tire with a tire specific cleaner (high pH APC also works) scrub and agitate with a stiff brush rinse off you may need multiple rounds of this depending on what you already have currently on your tire dry then apply your tire dressing in an ideal world, you would go back after a few minutes to buff down the tire dressing so that it’s more of a matte look, not a shiny look. shiny tires are not in vogue currently but admittedly that is a subjective assessment |

I have a tire brush, but what’s wrong with pH 8 soap if I use the brush on it? I think tire shine is nice, at least now.
If pH 8 soap and a tire brush are not good enough to clean the tires, what kind of tire cleaner is recommended? The car… wheels and body are ceramic coated, so I don’t want anything too aggressive… I suppose I could just spray it directly on the brush. Would be really nice if I was just able to pressure wash the car with the soap and then go over the tires with the brush… |
