Just curious when and why would you downshift to 1 when still rolling In my 20 odd years of driving manuals I never felt the need to shift to 1 when slowing down, not unless I was completely stopped. Always used the 1st gear more as a starting gear vs downshifting to 1 to get acceleration.

I thought I would not like it, as I am old school but I have to say I really like it and
its been really helpful on a few occasions. If your tracking your car just leave it in Sport + and your good to go! Last edited by elias; 01-26-2015 at 05:25 PM.. |

Guess I did shift to first when i was learning to drive back in the late 80's but the synchros(if any) were certainly not as forgiving as in today's cars. I guess the point I was making as that on a daily driven car I have never felt the need to downshift from 2nd to 1st while still rolling at 25-35 mph. I don't see the point other than driving up the revs for no apparent reason. You can pretty much come to a crawl in the second and shift to neutral as you come to a stop at a light. the 1st gear just feels like too low a gear to move to while still rolling.

The best feature ever in an MT, if you don't like it you are either Ayrton Senna or think you are Ayrton Senna. Nothing wrong with wanting to do it yourself but you will not do it consistently better in daily driving. Rev matching have never been why I like an MT, it's all about the third pedal and what it brings. I love this feature.

Many here on the list like the auto rev match but you sound more like me, OP. It's infuriating that I can't turn it off.
Sport+ does not give very good throttle modulation (important in this car due to the massive torque) - Economy is superb for that - but then I must tolerate the stupid auto rev match. Auto-match leaves the throttle on for a split second too long, so that it actually fights braking into a corner. Would be nice to have when I'm feeling totally lazy, but otherwise it's really aggravating to me.

Rev match is my favorite feature of this car as it makes daily driving in traffic much more enjoyable.

Let me get this right, you are pissed of by loosing .01s at track like driving when you at the same time want to be in economy and save mpg? |

do you guys think bmw will offer a fix to the rev matching feature? as in letting us go into iDrive or something and switch off rev match independently of the drive mode. and if they do decide to do that for 2016 or what not. do you think that option could be retro fitted to our cars? or cant the people who jail broke the ecu to tune the car have some kind of access to that feature? maybe a aftermarket solution?

Which would make it even more confusing. You lose the anti-lag feature in economy and thereby get a trickier throttle when you need linearity the most. This car is not like the e9X M3 where normal was preferable since "power" was more or less just a sprint booster. In the F8X you get actually better linearity and an easier throttle to modulate in sport than economy.

Auto Rev Match is awesome! Especially for DD duties.
As for shifting to 1st, I do it quite often. At slower crawl speeds and low RPM situations such as after a speed bump or after a corner, staying in 2nd makes the car work hard to accelerate, however, 1st makes the acceleration much smoother and the car comes out with more power. |

Its a cool feature that I can't say I didn't warm up to once I tried it. Although its always more fun to do it yourself when you know how to well. Ill be driving in Sport + 100% of the time till I can delete the feature in the DME.

what is going to happen when I ask it to rev match higher than the break-in limit on the green hell during ED?

I have only owned manual cars for the last 13 years, this is my 1st car with rev matching. I'm not sure how well other systems work but the rev matching is instantaneous on the F8X.
I can honestly say that I love this feature and only wish I could turn it on or off in iDrive instead of only in sport+
