Troubles with turbos?

I did a search and couldn't find a single mention of someone having issues with the turbos. Curious if anyone has had to have one or both replaced or serviced. I'm in the market for a 2015 M3/M4, curious how those turbos are holding up. Thanks!

I've had 4 turbocharged cars beginning with my 1979 Mercury Capri and 1983 Mitsubishi Starion. I did not get another turbo until my 2010 330Ci M Sport. I have never had to replace the turbos on any of these cars or on the 2015 M4 with 26,000 miles I have now.

Unless the M4 was tracked a lot or abused in some other way like neglecting oil changes according the the owner's manual, I don't think you should worry. It wouldn't hurt to get a Carfax report though.

There may be a handful of people out of the tens of thousands that have had to have the turbos replaced. Luckily these cars are not like the N54s that had the wastegate problem.

That being said there have been issues with spun crank hubs, but it's not a huge issue (meaning not everyone has that problem, and usually they are tuned but not always) but it's probably more so of an issue than the turbos.

IIRC you can go up into the high 500s with the stock turbos

Thanks for the info. Found the thread on the crank hubs.

I think we will begin to see more failing turbos as the 2015s like mine are going out a warranty and accruing more mileage. I have slight whine (dreaded siren noise) that the Dealer didn't take issue with. I kinda hope it goes out so I can get The Pure Turbos upgrade...

56,000 miles on mine when I got rid of the car, no troubles at all with the turbos. Or anything else for that matter.

The issue is going to be aftermarket tunes and general abuse by the original leasee. Dealers shouldn't CPO cars which they know were modded but if BMWNA hasn't flagged the car.......

In general I agree. However I had whining turbos on a stock tune. Maybe I'm just unlucky but my turbos on my previous N54 did the same thing. In my experience , these stock turbos seem pretty fragile
