Just got diagnosed with this. Is this common with these cars? It’s only has 25k miles.
How much should this run me to repair? Shop is quoting me close to $2500. This includes replacing the differential oil pan gasket, pinion seal, pinion nut, and fluid. |

Looks like its just your pinion seal. Not the gasket.. I had the same issue at the same mileage. FCPEuro has a new and improved version of the pinion gasket seal that will precent this from happening. Should cost around $800 out the door.

You will need to replace the pinion nut as well as that is a one use item, the fluid change is a simple DIY, but should be done as well just to replace any fluid lost.

If it’s just leaking from the pinion seal replace, don’t change axle seals if not needed. I had a small seep no dripping on my axle seals and had BMW replaced one under third-party warranty, after that it was leaking/drips. They couldn’t fix the problem so they replace the whole rear differential. Many other four members have had their axle seals replaced, and it was worse off than before.
