I suppose it depends. My M4 is a street car; it's my sole automobile. I cannot afford to potentially wreck it at the track. I don't track my sole automobile simply out of [personal] principle. I do track bikes however, as they are more exciting and more visceral to me simply by nature of the tool - meaning the motor vehicle - being used. I can afford to crash them, lay them down, cause engine damage, etc.........and not risk being out of my primary mode of transportation. For that reason, I'd put mods [on the M4] over an HPDE. With all of that said, there is both intrinsic and extrinsic value to HPDE's and/or bike oriented track events, but I don't think they will make you a better driver on the street in the same way that a car control clinic/safety course would (...i.e...lots of skid pad work, etc.). Some of what you learn on a race track translates to the street, but not all. My two cents (...coming from someone with track experience and high speed driver/car control training via CHP's EVOC)

Disagree with the premise. I've found the more mods folks have on their DD, the worse they drive. Guess it's because they prioritize cosmetics over substance with their wallets.

HPDE, and Harry's lap timer. For $30 you can go back and obsessively watch how good or bad you were on the track.

I think I'm gonna rent one for the upcoming HPDE, don't plan on going to the trackmore than 2x a year, but I should invest in one for the long run
