GTS Hood and Water drainage

Hey guys, been on the fence lately about getting a GTS hood on my BMW M4

I currently have open pod intakes and I was curious about the drainage/distribution of water with the GTS Hood

There are both original and china reps. Besides quality, is there an actual difference? does the original gts hood have specific drainage for water?

For those who have the GTS style hood, how much water gets into your engine bay? Do you reckon it will cause any long-term issues?

Will the water get to my open pod intake and cause damage? ( the intakes seem reasonable far from the vent to i doubt it will be wet the intakes )

If anyone has any experience with GTS hoods and open pod intakes do drop a comment below on your personal advice on the matter

Regards, Rocco

CS and GTS have a rubber piece on the carbon strut brace to guide the water from the vent

Oh nice! Didn’t know about that piece!

I just put blue painters tape over the vent while I’m washing it then remove it afterwards

Wow, this is super helpful thank you for posting. I didn't know they sold this piece. Of course the GTS rep I bought didn't include it. Is there another piece for the other side or just this one?

The M3 CS doesnt come with that rubber piece. I dont see it making a noticeable difference either. Most of the water empties on top of the CF brace and intake tube that runs parallel.

That's nowhere near where the water drains from the vent. It's not off to the side of the brace, rather towards the very front of it. I've had mine on for quite some time and have not run into any issues leaving the vent exposed, and I wash my car every week.

Yup! I actually think it’s a good thing when a little water gets in there. Forces you to open your hood and detail the engine

Same here. Have had the OEM GTS hood on for over a year and noticed no issues at all with frequent washes or the occasional rain/storms.

I've had both M3CS and GTS, I don't remember that piece being on the CS but this morning I took a peak on the GTS and confirmed they're not on that car. Photos attached

ETK suggests it was only for US-spec GTS and CS cars when I click on the parts application tab, but it's also found in parts drawings for EU models too. idk.

Thread bump, but my 2018 M4CS had it. I never even noticed it at the time but looking back on pics it’s there.

I’m here as id like to put the OEM bonnet on my current M4 at some point.

Its to guide the water away from dripping on the electrical connection to the fan/fan housing.
