Based on your username, you probably picked that up on S2000 boards. It's absolutely true on that car because the synchros on that Aisin transmission are built only to accept the loads from neighboring gears. For example, the RPM drop from 5th to 6th is small, so 6th only has a tiny synchro. This is normally fine, but people commonly run it to redline in 1st and 2nd then realize that they're loud and breaking the speed limit, so they shift directly into 6th. Coincidentally, lots of S2000s have issues with dead 6th gear synchros. If you want to quickly get into 6th on that car, the solution is to clutch in, row through all the intermediate gears, and then clutch out.

It's a blessing and a curse; the S2000's MT is one of the best feeling manual transmissions out there because of this, but it's also very fragile if not driven properly. This isn't an issue on other cars. In fact, a lot of MT cars will lock you out of 2nd and 3rd when you're in economy mode and force you to shift directly into 4th to save fuel.

Are you a wizard?? Yea, I'm pretty sure I read that on s2ki like you said. I do miss the transmission on the s2k but after getting used to the 6mt on the M3, I prefer this one over the s2000. However, I miss the s2000 every day since I've sold it....great car.

I have a s2000 and im taking delivery of my M4 on sat. ill see how they differ in shifting impressions

yea I love my tranny in my s2k. in my opinion, the 5th gear is useless for me. I hardly ever cruise on 5th whether in local or in freeway unless im travelling in that exact speed where 5th gear is adequate.

LMAO that was a great bit of deductive reasoning if I do say so myself!

Only done 1100km so far but as work is a 300km commute on the autobahn twice weekly (in efficiency but speeds of around 100-120 mph) and the rest is town (in sport mode naturally), then the indicated 22mpg (US) or 10,5 l/100km is pretty good I think

10,5 l/100km is pretty impressive if you ask me! My X5 3.0sd had 10-11l/100km

Mixed highway and suburban driving, spirited, has yielded about 20.8 MPG overall over the last 1,500 miles. Sport+ engine mode, Sport mode for DCT.

In at 19.2 mpg total. It was at 10.2mpg when I picked it up from idling, moving around vpc etc. Have not been babying the car either.

I'm modestly impressed so far, I think it could do 25+ mpg on the highway easily.

If I reset when I am on the highway I can easily get 20+ doing 90 average. If I look after a day or two of driving normal for me, which is aggressive and fast I am at around 16 but that is with only 300+ miles on the car so I am certain it will pick up another 2-3 mpg as it breaks in. My E92 I averaged about 12 once fully broken in, so a large % better then the old.
