The only downside is that the Valentine will turn off, but delayed after accessory power shuts off. So I can lock the car and a few small LED's will stay on around the console...it took several minutes before the power on the Valentine finally turned off automatically but it will do it.

I hope this is helpful!
Just wanted to pop in and say thanks for this.

My F30 has no power rear view so I ordered a mirror tap to try this out. Lo and behold, works like a charm and was super easy. Uniden is reading a steady 14.7 volts and turns off a few minutes after the rest of the accessories.

Nice install! I prefer not using the blendmount mirror thing like you did, it's a perfect space for a radar detector. If I'm nervous at a light with police in a car next to me I can just put the sun shade down.

Glad it’s continuing to work. I just did it in a new Panamera and it works great as well! Even mounted it in the same location it is working well.

Thanks man, it's much improved over the cable I had coming from the cigarette lighter in the center since I got the car. In dark mode the R1 only makes itself noticed when it needs to be. I thought I couldn't use the wiretap until I stumbled across this thread, OP has my gratitude for helping me clean up my dash.

I have buddies with blendmounts and while they are nice, they obstruct vision more than I'm comfortable with. On that same token, if pulled over the officer is more likely to make that claim as well. I'm not concerned about a cop seeing it as they're completely legal in CT, but understand the desire to conceal them. By the time I have my next car laser deterrents will be more necessary, that's the kit I'm more keen to keep concealed.

Awesome

Rain sensor method worked like a charm after other attempt failed. Just canceled my order for the Escort Solo4 I ordered in frustration last night when could not get it to work using the main housing.

Thanks for the post!

Anyone know if there’s a release tab for the connectors with all the wires? Already broke the pin on the ground for the rear view power cord once so I want to take the connectors out to get a better view when inserting the taps. I’ve watched YouTube videos and they remove it in seconds but I’ve been moving them around all over the place and they won’t come out

FYI - I purchased the official Mirror Tap from the blend mount website and the wires going to the mirror itself work fine for my Uniden R7. Turns off about 5 seconds after car is off.

For the life of me I couldn’t unplug the main black harness and it was easier to insert the wire taps into the rain sensing plug. Thanks!!

Just picked up a 2018 M3 and having a helluva time getting my mirror tap or rain sensor tap to work properly. Mirror power green/brown wire definitely doesn't seem to have enough juice as the detector won't power on at all when connected with that method.

When I use the rain sensor method, the detector keeps restarting intermittently because the power connection is loose. Going to have to try another RJ11 cable set because it seems like either my contacts are either too skinny or too fat.

i'm at a total loss now. i realized i had some positaps leftover from another project, so i thought i would give that a try on the rain sensor plug, since this is the only one the detector has worked with (but intermittently as the contacts kept falling out). got the positaps installed on the red/white (rain sensor power) and the brown/black (ground). still no power....

I am running a Passport 360MAX and it worked fine. Used same green/brown for power and brown/black for ground also...used Blendmount and their included taps...pushed pins in ALL the way firmly and used mirror connector (black) vs rain sensor which is a bit smaller and thus more difficult install IMHO. No issues....so far. Power on with ignition and off with shut off after a few mins. Car is 2016 M4.

Car is 2016 M4 and I used mirror connector not rain sensor as above. No issues. Removed back connector to ensure I visualized the taps and connectors and got a clean and full insertion into the mirror connectors then re-installed plugs. Thanks pics helped as did a few Youtube videos for reference.

Yes me too for my 2016 M4 (new to me that its).

I have Blendmount for my Escort 360MAX and works fine. No shake...very secure. No worries about visibility s I don't keep my detector mounted 24/7.

Yes I think the Blenmount taps seem to work well for the car in question when ordering. No issues. Didn't get mine separately.

Take your time and gently squeeze the removal pin assembly and it should slide out easy. Take your time as the wires are short and not much space.
I had to move my mirror around a bit to get enough space to get the two pieces apart but once done I found it easier to visualize where the taps needed to go. Also light helped as it is a bit dark in the cabin. Otherwise it was easy once I decided to use the black mirror connector and got it removed from the housing and two parts disconnected.

Worked for me with mirror connector and taps as supplied by Blendmount.

Used green/brown=power and brown/black=ground. Worked flawlessly. No issues. Car is a 2016 M4 tho.

Thanks Tom@EAS and all those who responded with comments...definitely helped work through this as well as YouTube videos.
