Still in progress

Going to paint the masked off areas in gloss black. Waiting for paint to try over night so I can hit it with some clear

Step 1. Clean engine cover using dish washer soap.

Step 2. Scuff entire cover using 3M Scuff pad or a Brillo pad will work too.

Step 3. Re-wash surface

Step 4. Hit it with primer. I did 3 coats.

Step 5. Wet sand with 1500 grit. Careful around edges as you will rip the primer right off.

Step 5. Rinse and clean

Step 6. Mask

Step 7. Rinse and clean

Step 8. Paint / clear

Step 9. Compound and polish.

Looks like a good start and don't forget to post pics when completed!

Did you use a big piece of tape to mask those
Pieces and cut away the excess with a knife? Looks clean

Blue masking tape was a little less then an inch wide green masking tape maybe an inch and half. I cut each letter individually.

Great job! I did a similar DIY on my engine cover last summer and I must say it has held up really well. At least better than I expected. The biggest pain for me was the masking of the letters.....lots of trial and error!

Deffinitely did a better masking job then me…I had to touch it up a tad bit but overall I'm happy with it.
