Recommended Exhaust

I am new to the forum and looking for recommendations for exhausts on a F82/M4. I’m sure people will ask why…but I’d like some thing that isn’t too loud and can work with the ECU settings. Call it classy loud when needed :-)
Thanks in advance.

There are a lot of really really good threads existing already on the topic. If you hit the search function and just type exhaust you’ll get a huge amount of great resources. That’s what I ended up doing.

Single midpipe (not equal length) with a Remus, Dinan or Turner rear section is probably the best setup.

Respectfully disagree. From a smooth-tone perspective, I prefer an equal length midpipe w/ resonators and your axle-back of choice

In my opinion m performance exhaust is the perfect loudness for most people but if you want just a bit more just get a secondary cat delete with it you can find mpe second hand for pretty reasonable

I’d say the tone is higher with the EL and lower with the single. High tones seem louder than low tones, at least to me they do.

I run a single mid with mpe and like it. Quiet with valves closed and deep and throaty with them open.

If you plan on working on your car, and this was the biggest aspect for me in choosing an exhaust, get a titanium one. The stock one is insanely heavy. I'm so glad I got rid of it... now doing downpipe installs, or anything that requires exhaust removal, is 10x much more easier than dropping the insanely heavy exhaust. Sound was never an issue for me.

Budget: AA single midpipe non-resonated, everything else stock

Deeper note: AA resonated single midpipe + ARM or VSRF catless downpipes + optional Dinan muffler

Higher pitched race car scream: AA non-resonated equal length midipipes + catted downpipes (stock or aftermarket but make sure not catless) + optional remus axleback

Roll your windows down, sport+ mode, save your money.
But if that fails, try them all, like most people do here already.

Currently running AA equal length Midpipe (non-res) paired with ZCP rear.

It’s hard to get rid of the chewbacca screams at 4k+ RPM but this makes it tolerable lol.

Beyond this form there is SO much on YouTube. There is even a single video comparison like exhausts back to back(tried to find again but couldn’t)

There’s just so many combinations out there once you start with the different brands of

OEM Catted
Resonated Catless
Catless
All the different midpipe options
All the different axel back options
All the different complete systems

I run:

OEM Cats
AA Equal Length Non Resonanted
Capristo Axel Back

Love it, super angry and exotic when on the throttle.

Super tame with valves closed in the neighborhood around the house.

Definitely agree with you, F8x's have so many different exhaust combos. I would say if you're trying to figure your set up out, start with the basic setup you want (ie. catted/catless -->EL/Single Mid/etc --->OEM muff/any aftermarket ones) then figure which brands you'd want for each section.

I just picked up my '15 F82 M4, I have an appointment to get these installed this week:

ARM Resonated Catless DPs
VRSF Single Midpipe
OEM Muffler (Non Comp.)

Can't wait to hear what it sounds like it person

After watching countless videos, it is tough to decide. In the end, I have decided to show up to cars and coffee with M3/M4s there to hopefully hear in person rather than trust headphones and recording quality of youtube. I mean you get a taste, but before spending $$$$ I want to make sure I will be happy driving it everyday.

As far as what I am leaning and hoping to hear in person, AA EL midpipes non-resonated due to me being in CA and not wanting to mess with downpipes or that new 95dba law from cops. Kind of a reason I went with 35% tint too lol.

Ps if anyone is in sac area that has this setup with stock DP and stock axle back lemme know.

If there’s a 95dB law then you need resonated.

He needs valves.

My Akrapovic evo with AA GESI downpipes are almost silent with the valves closed/normal driving.

Sorry to bump an old thread but I agree with greysea. I've been watching so many youtube videos with conflicting sounds and thoughts.

I'm on the fence between the Single Midpipe & Equal Length. I prefer a quieter setup so both with be resonated with stock downpipes and ZCP muffer. Coming from a OG M2, that car sounded amazingly smooth and deep. My biggest gripe about my F80 is the rasp at 4K since I do like to rev it out.

Vin from Hoonigan just got a similar setup EL w/ Resonators and non-ZCP muffler and it sounded super smooth and still deep. The way I would prefer. Vince Fung has a Single vs EL comparison that suggests that a single mid-pipe is a deeper and smoother tone but every other video of a single mid pipe I watch sounds terrible at or above 4K.

I am in Sacramento. I have ARM resonated catless + AA equal length non res+ stock ZCP exhaust.
