It's a very cool system, the pieces are cut exactly to fit. you have to look very closely to see them at an edge or corner of a given panel.

Previous owner did it, I probably would have done the whole car.

It changes the surface ever so slightly to more of a satin look, but You have really got to look close in the right conditions to see it even when the PPF and uncovered Frozen panels are right next to each other.

The PPF cleans up very easily and I have peace of mind if I mar it up, it's self healing in the sun, and at the worst I can always have it removed and redone.

This is the exact reason I did the whole car in a stealth PPF. Just like when the original car came to showroom, the rear wheel arches had the normal glossy film on matte finish, just that part and you could see how the difference in shine. By doing the whole wrap, the whole car has the more satin, pearlescent look.

Window is easily replaced when it chips, compared to paint matching.

Yeah you can't go wrong either way. I think if I would've done mine I would've just done the whole car.

I mean they did all the difficult parts. The remaining stuff, doors, rear quarter panels, rear bumper and boot lid seem like pretty simple in comparison.

Whole car is surprisingly expensive compared to the all-forward facing option. I was quoted 6k compared to 2k. I went with the latter.

I know you've moved on from talking about shampoo but the main thing about shampoos for matte cars is that they have to specifically exclude gloss agents from the formulation. It's surprising how many shampoos have that stuff (Dr Beasleys was basically the first one I could find that didn't)

Good to know thanks, if the delta is that much I’ll do the all-forward facing option too.

That’s a good point on the shampoos. I’ve got the BMW Matte shampoo to start with so hopefully should be fine.

Wow, that's a huge price jump. I never would've thought. The guy who sold me the car did say that the paint protection film was "not cheap" and he looks like he has some money.

I'm sure his was more than just the front facing cost because he had the roof done as well as the high wing with gloss XPEL.

When I wash it I'm amazed at how detailed of a job they do. There's even a little circular piece on the plug for the front tow hook. There a separate pieces for the black and painted part of the mirror housing etc. Each piece must be die cut to size and shape I'm thinking.

Yes for sure avoid anything with waxes or Products that enhance the shine of a normal clearcoat.

I to have the BMW stuff. It's very expensive but you only use one capful for a wash, I think about 2 ounces for about 2 1/2 gallons of water.. I wash the car about every 3 to 4 weeks so it should last a while. It's not a daily driver so it's protected in the garage when it's not out on the road.

The BMW car shampoo actually smells very nice, not so much with the BMW wheel gel. Oh my God...

Good to know, im gonna text him today to figure out all the costs for the Xpel Stealth and ill post them here for everyone's information.

Ya, figured the BMW matte shampoo would be a good place to start. Do you have to dry the car immediately with a microfiber towel? I usually do this then go for a quick highway blast to air dry anything missed. Any remaining water spots shouldn't etch into the paint right?

Mine isn't a dd either and lives in the garage weekdays so I'm not worried about bird poop, bugs etc.

Yeah drying is always a pain. I have a two towel method that I use, because our water out here is really hard even though it runs through the water softener.

I'm a bit of a nut about car detailing and admittedly this does take a while but I dry with two towels, one of which takes off the majority of the water and I ring that out kind of using it like a chamois, and then a second towel which does the final drying. This towel hardly gets wet at all. But that's the only way to do it to avoid the haze that you get when using a chamois that doesn't take every bit of water off.

Either thick microfiber towels or there are actual designated drying towels available, either one is fine IMO.

Then I dry all the areas were water gets stuck like The door sills and the area around the trunk lid when you open it.

Then a quick blast on the highway to get all the hidden water off and then come back and use a dilute vinegar solution to moisten a clean microfiber cloth followed by a wipe with a dry microfiber.

this will wipe hard water spots right off, as there are always a few hidden areas that you can't get to with a towel dry. Some people use a leaf blower although I've never done it.

Thanks for posting back about the cost of the paint protection film. I'm curious.

Ok, i was ordering this for drying: https://www.lenosgarage.com/collecti...r-drying-towel

Interesting on that dilute vinegar part of your drying regimen, never heard that before. I know next to nothing about detailing (two bucket method was news to me) but I enjoy washing the fun car.

Yeah that one looks great. Looks better than what I have. Two of them so you can do the two towel method if your water is hard like it is here.

I made up the vinegar thing one day it just came to me. Because no matter what I do there's always this hard water spots after the initial drive, and they bug the crap out of me. So vinegar solution is acidic and dissolves them right off, then I wipe with a second microfiber cloth dampened with just water and then a third one to dry. I use a lot of MF towels.

You can always use a leaf blower to dry the car. It works great to get the water out of the door jams, wheel lugs, basically anywhere it hides. I try to mostly dry the car with the blower, then go over it with a microfiber cloth. It can be tough because with the ceramic coating, most of the water tends to run right off.

Beasleys lineup is great and has been around for quite some time. Their matte product line has never disappointed, but like others have said no need to over complicate the process. PH neutral soap with a two bucket method and you should have a great looking car.
What would you recommend that’s cheap?

Just an update, I got a leaf blower and an "absorber" towel and the car dries perfectly.

Hello all

I absoultly love the frozen grey, I would if I could hand clean it (honestly) but I have to park in a multi-storey story with no drainage

What would be the best way to get it cleaned?

The guys on the side of the road with the jet washers and ask them just to use shampoo and maybe a 4/6 monthly specialist ?
