Morristown BMW Screwed Me

I brought my very rare car in for service on 09/17/2021.

For reference it is a 2018 BMW F80 M3 Competition painted in individual Avus Blue Metallic. Only 106 of these ever made.

All the car needed was new window seals. For some reason they squeaked and rattled a lot and needed to be changed. I never take my cars to the dealer but it was under warranty so I didn't have a choice.

When I picked up my car it was absolutely filthy. Mechanics grease everywhere. On top of that they tried to wash my car and left it in the sun to dry. If you know anything about car detailing that is the worst thing you can do to your cars paint. It causes hard water spots that usually cannot be taken out unless you get the car detailed.

They tried to say I brought them the car like that. Absolute hogwash. I am a massive BMW enthusiast and all of my cars are spotless. I even have a YouTube channel where I spent 8 hours detailing the interior of the car when I bought it. It was better then the day the car was built in the factory and they just crapped all over it.

Anyway...

Upon noticing all this I refused to take the car back until it was cleaned. How could they deliver someone their car like this. It is beyond me.

Here is where things go downhill even further...

I left the car there overnight to get detailed and called them at 3:00PM the next day to say I will be there at 4:00PM to pick it up. They said they forgot about it and didn't wash it. I had to wait 2 days for them to wash my car. Thank god I had a loaner.

Now... I finally have my car back. I go to put it in storage and as I open my trunk to charge the battery I find a screw just chilling there and my wheel lock missing.

Keep in mind I am OCD, I know every single detail about my cars. I also do my own maintenance so I actually need my wheel lock. Why would they steal it?

I know what your thinking... "Oh they probably used the wheel lock and forgot to put it back". NO! HELL NO! They replaced a window seal. They don't need to touch my wheel lock for any reason! None at all! They straight up stole it. Like damn BMW you can't afford a $15 wheel lock? You have to steal it out of customer cars?

So now I am missing my wheel lock, there is a screw just chilling in my trunk that I have no clue where it goes... I am OCD so it kills me that something was done incorrectly (AT THE DEALER MIGHT I ADD). And to put the cherry on top my passenger sun visor is still dirty. They couldn't get the grease out.

For all my fellow ///M owners hear this warning. DO NOT TAKE YOUR CAR HERE FOR SERVICE. They suck!

Please see pictures for reference.

ONE OTHER NOTE:

The service advisor was not very nice. He was short with me and has a very dry personality.

Sylvie the front desk lady on the other hand was super kind and helpful. Deserves a massive raise. If you need anything talk to her!

Is there a new revised window door seal that somehow, magically, gets rid of noisy door seals on Shadowline cars? Been a thing since the E39 at least lol. I thought the latest best solution was to apply a teflon tape on the affected areas, there's a BMW service bulletin for it actually.

Dealership sucks ass.

That screw looks like it comes from the engine area. Hope that narrows it down.

Yikes.... that's an absolute mess. 0% chance I would let them "clean it up for me." If they are willing to let this mess go out the door.... I don't even want to imagine what their idea of "auto detailing" is.

I would consider myself extremely picky when it comes to detailing a car (Obsessed Garage level)... whenever my wife's x5 or my m3 gets serviced I specifically request that they NOT wash the car. I'd rather it come back dusty/dirty than them having the guy who makes $10-$15 an hour touching my paint with some raggedy wash mit or taking it through an automatic car wash because their job is to get it in and out ASAP. This is fine for probably 90% of the population but it doesn't come close to my standards for washing a car.

Sorry you had to go through this. It's always hard when dealership service is subpar.

I had a similar issue, and had my dealership pay for my detail.

At the end of the day, your health is the more important…try not to take it to heart.

That's terrible. When a customers car comes through the shop, let alone a M car, the person working on the car should take heed because 9/10 the owner has an attachment to that vehicle. This is piss poor service on all corners for this dealership.

Tsk tsk tsk.

Thanks for the support!
If it was 1 spot okay. Fine. But this was insane.

That’s why I take pictures because even I couldn’t believe how they tried to hand me my car back. I was like… is this some sort of joke? Did my wife put you up to this? 😂

This stinks. I'm losing faith in BMW dealerships. Bmw of Towson just finished doing my super dirty about a week ago.

its unfortunate that these things happen when bringing your car in for service at a bmw dealership. you definitely deserve better than that. next time i would make sure your advisor knows that you are ocd about your car, that way your vehicle gets in the right hands once its in the shop..
keep in mind most technicians are paid flat rate, some just do the job for the paycheck and dont have the same passion for cars as this forum displays....

Some? Most dealership techs and SA's I've met really don't seem to give a shit what happens to customer cars as long as they get them in and out. So many BMW SA's / techs have absolutely no business being near any well maintained car.

At this point, the only way I take my car into a dealer at this point is if I research SA's beforehand and know they're also a car enthusiast or F8X owner.

Sorry for the trouble they caused you. Yep they are my local dealer and I go elsewhere. 1) refused to acknowledge a problem I was having with auto rev match despite my showing them BMW literature that backed up my point. 2) dinged my door during service (they fixed it with PDR and it's fine but shows carelessness) 3) service prices are insane. $550 for a rear diff fluid change??? Oil changes are 20% higher than dealers 30 mins away. No thanks.

I'll go ahead and say it.... it's NJ so I'm not surprised.

Sucks that happened. You can always tell them no wash when you bring it in. I used to put a post it note on the steering wheel when dropping it off that said "no wash" .

As for the interior. That's inexcusable.

I always tell the dealer NOT to touch/wash my car. They have young kids doing this for minimum wage, most don’t care if it’s base X1 or new M3 unfortunately.

Also only bad things can happen leaving car overnight- did you track your mileage from dropoff to pickup?

Not surprised at all. The BMW dealer near my home does not wash M cars at all unless specifically asked.
