EL midpipe + what = best sound

Currently running a active autowerke EL. Love it all around with stock DP and muffler.

I would however like to get more sound and possibly deeper sound. From Research there are literally zero catted downpipes that are officially legal in the UK which rules that out, so I was thinking of keeping the stock DP and upgrading to muffler for increased auditory gains

Anyone running setups of this build I’d like and if so any sound clips, issues to be aware of etc?

I’d ideally just love to throw a downpipe on it for a stage 2, but it’s not worth the halsey come MOT and I also have seen a non stockDP with EL midpipe sounds awful

Just run stage 2 tune on stock DPs if that’s why you’re looking into them. It’s fine, fairly common as well. I’ve done it for 5 years.

I know you ‘can’ but you’re not really getting the effective gains surely due to back pressure?
Like did you notice a difference from stage 1 to stage 2?

Fellow EL non-res here.

Ones I have researched that go well are:

-dinan muffler
-Remus muffler

Those are the two I need to hear in person but a lot of people have ran and liked them.

Out of curiosity, which variant of the AA EL are you using? There's the Gen 1 and Gen 2, of which each gen also has their respective resonated & non-resonated variant.

I'm currently running the Gen 1 Resonated AA EL midpipe, and paired with the stock DPs with the ZCP muffler it has a satisfying deep tone to it. I think the ZCP muffler in general is better at bringing out the lower baritone notes of the S55!

I've heard the Dinan one in person, and it sounds good although admittedly have never heard it paired with an Equal Length midpipe before.

Do you have soundclips of your current setup? Im interested in the AA EL resonated midpipes paired with stock catted downpipes and stock muffler but never heard this combo.

Always find soundclips of non-resonated midpipes. But im not interested in making the car really loud, which is why im looking into resonated midpipes.

Can you describe the sound difference after you added the resonated midpipe?

Thank for the help.

Unfortunately my car is garaged for the winter (still on summer tires ) but I can see if I can pull it out later around this weekend to grab a few sound clips! Remind me if I forget.

My friend has a non-ZCP Gen 1 EL non-resonated, and if I'm being honest it sounds much more aggressive in the lower rev ranges, and there's not much rasp with stock downpipes (although there is a slight buzz around 1.5-2K RPM). Overall decent package. If you were to get a Gen 2 EL non-resonated, you'd most likely not have that buzz sound with stock downpipes as they come with very small resonators as standard.

The ZCP Resonated EL is a very clean sound, but is definitely still noticeably louder than stock, I guess primarily due to the deletion of secondary cats. The car sounds a lot more like a proper inline-6, with a tone that sounds like it could have come from the factory (kinda unlike the non-resonated variant in that sense). Although it's lesser in volume than the EL non-resonated, it feels like it's been tuned to sound a little more substantial with a bit more rumbly, bassy tones across the rev range, although I suspect this is mostly due to my ZCP muffler.

Thanks again. You saying your resonated EL is still definately louder even with stock dp and muffler means its enough for me. I dont mind some additional noise, and if yours is louder already, i wouldnt want it louder with the non-resonated version.

No worries! Just noticed you're also around NJ lol. If you're ever around Rutgers New Brunswick you're always free to see if you like the sound in person. Just not when it's snowing!

I have stock do and comp muffler with resonated el. I had non res before and this is much better, more of that straight 6 sound and like 25% louder. I enjoy it. Very clean.

Just got EL on mine with stock dp/muffler. Overall, consensus seems to be that these do not sound good with aftermarket downpipes. Maybe look at axlebacks

or you can get the additional third resonator from active and get high flow catted downpipes, that helps keep the sound as clean as possible with an equal length

I have the AA EL non-resonated, with Dinan cat-back. It sounds great to me, particularly over 3k RPM. This combination has character and you can play with it to produce different sounds at different RPM ranges. It burbles and growls naturally. I have tuned out the software burbles. When you really get on it it's viscious. I constantly get comments on how good it sounds.

Here is a fly-by on track.

Any chance you got a before-and-after of the axleback install? Wondering how big a difference it makes. The stock axleback is still super aggressive with my resonated el.

Ive got MAD resonated downpipes with EL resonated v2 mid and stock non comp muffler. Very clean sound.

Previously had ARM resonated dp's, and had annoying drone around 2k rpms.
