I have 3" catless downpipe. Wondering if the sound will change if I go 3.5".

Just finished the install about an hour ago for the MAD Performance Fat Boys.....they are definitely fat!

Fat Boy 3.5 inch with the stock midpipe and non Zcp Muffler.

First Impression after install... The car sounded really good on the drive home from the shop!
I will have better videos tomorrow once I had enough time with BM3 to config the tune and break it in. I finished it at around 11:45pm so i didn't not take pictures of the install unfortunately.

In the box were both dps and 4 bolts.
I did not see the bracket that was mentioned in the forum so I am not sure if that was supposed to be included.

QUALITY: The quality of the welds and overall construction have exceeded my expectations.

Regarding the FITMENT: Getting the 3.5 inch Downpipes mounted on was not bad as previously I thought. It is difficult to squeeze your hands to get to the required bolts.

The one concern that I currently have is that once they dps are mounted into place, the clearance is almost non-existent. It took a good bit of time(45 min) on just tweaking and maneuvering the longer DP to be separated by only a small margin(1/8" and maybe less). There is almost no clearance near the flex pipes, o2 sensor are almost touching, and the oem bracket did not line up after many attemps so it was removed entirely.

Sooo MAIN CONCERN is that once the dps have been heated settled is that they will touch and start to cause vibration. I will report back by the end of the week.

SOUND is amazing and it doesn't seem too raspy for me but it is hard for me to compare be biased since I have only heard one f80/f82with 3 inch dp in person so I do not have much experience to compare with a 3 inch dp.

Overall, I am very pleased and excited..

I attached a short video below right after pulling the car out of the garage. I will take better pictures this week.

John,

Thanks for the review. Yes, the fitment is very tight as we are pushing the limits on pipe diameter afterall.

We only supply 4 new nuts and bolts not sure which bracket you are referring to in the photos on the first page. Any bracket is oem and reused form the old system.

Since the install yesterday and after driving to work, the downpipes have not caused any sort of vibration and have been sounding better and better as they break in! Other than some extra time and a few curse words, I am very pleased overall!

Attached is the first start up and then cold start this morning.

I installed these myself Thursday. I have installed several sets on V6 and I6 cars and with collars. These look like very good quality. The first thing I noticed while installing is that the long pipe O2 sensor is WAY too close to an aluminum bracket on the car. It doesn't need to be and could use a rotation of 5-10deg around the pipe. I had to use a large/long punch I have to tweak the location of it or it would vibrate. Yes, the bands were lose and there was low ability to maneuver the pipes.

When mounting the short pipe and bracket, it was against barely against the flex of the long pipe. Again I had to use the punch to adjust. I was able to get them both in a location that was good for the O2 and the flex.

The other issue was that the (3?) bolts 2 long and one short and there were no instructions as to what the short one was for. No instructions at all. In order to use the long bolts I had to cut 3-4 threads off in order to get them in near the flex or so that they wouldn't touch the flex in the other direction. The short one was way too short to use on anything. Maybe the bracket on the long pipe???

The sound is great and close to the original video.

I am pleased at 4.5 stars. Thank you, well worth the price.

Good write up! Thanks for sharing. Sounds like these pipes are taking full advantage of all available space!

Will this need dropping of the subframe to install? Or will I be able to fit it like stock?

No dp's require f8x subframe removal that I am aware of. Neither do these.

No dynos with that setup yet. Alot depends on the tune. Larger turbos or full e85 cars would definitely benefit.

It always wonders me... if you haven't dyno'ed the car before and after installation of your DP how do you know it increases the power and do not harm the output? I'm not claiming its not good I'm just curious why you haven't dyno'ed any car? It should be your priority to have real numbers to back up your product.

cheers

My mechanic fitted it last week. Seems like no problem but he swore at me saying i find the tigthest shit all the time. Anyways, thanks to him he is a legend.

The sound is awesome, I think I have found one of the best combos in this platform.

MPE Backbox, single mid pipe with 2x resonators just after the diff towards muffler and fat boi 3.5 downpipes. no rattle, drone or rasp. Before this I had arm resonated downpipes and in general it was a bit quiet. it is just a bit louder but with 0 rasp and really deeper sound overall. to a point sometimes it is a bit like v8 growl in low rpms (i drive my friend' c63 sometimes)

i'll try to record it sometime and post it
