BM3 disallowing Dealer Updates

I have a BootMod3 Stage 1 tune on my car and last time I was at the dealer they weren’t able to update communications firmware or something like that. I’ve never messed with DME settings in the app. What do I need to do to allow the dealer firmware updates to succeed? Been a few years since they updated any sort of firmware… will any of it block me from re-flashing my tune?

return your car to stock and then bring it in and if they tell you the same thing then they are bullshitting you because they can't figure it out

Well, I’m able to successfully download the stock map… and then BM3 keeps telling me I need to download the stock map each time I try to flash. So I download again… rinse and repeat.

Any tricks to the trade here?

Just so you know if you let dealer update your firmware, you can be locked out of your DME and will need a bench unlock if you wanted to reflash bm3. So this might be a blessing in disguise that they have been unable to nipdate your firmware

I was actually trying to flash to stock yesterday and having the same issue. Never had this problem before so I think it’s due to the new bm3 version. I need to file a support ticket with bm3.

Regarding the software update, I got my DME updated by bimmer-remote remotely and he said the newest version available for my 2015 M4 still didn’t require the bench unlock. I think mine got updated to a 2019 DME version. So if I were you, I would look into what the newest version for your car is, vs the version that it starts requiring a bench unlock to confirm that you won’t have issues.

Try hard flash or whatever it's called, or did the update eliminate hard flash?

Going back to BM3 stock map still doesnt solve the problem. The dealer needs to flash the DME back to stock with whatever istep version they are using. After, they should be able to update the other modules they couldnt update previously.

If you have 2017 and below production date, you shouldnt need a bench unlock. 2018 and higher usually has the newer DME hardware that can be triggered to be locked. You'll need to get it bench unlocked if this occurs.

From BM3 help desk and it worked like a charm:

“Please make sure to run our latest version of the app.

If you already use it, log out and log back in to your account, delete your stock map (you won’t entirely delete it, don’t worry), and redownload it. That should do it.”

Thank you to everybody that chimed in!
