Official words on Full Leather vs. Extended Leather

From the new BMW Canada 2014 Product Planning Bulletin on M3 and M4 posted by Vise here: http://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho...=934796&page=5

PDF: http://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/att...1&d=1390439662 On page 9

Quote:
The top-tier “Full Merino Leather” – vs. “Extended Merino Leather (premium pkg.)” adds the following:
  • - Upper door panels in Walknappa Leather (Black).
  • - Instrument panel/dashboard in Walknappa Leather (Black).
  • - Lower dashboard in Merino and Walknappa Leather (Upholstery colour/Black).
  • - Sun visors textured/anthracite.
  • - Rear parcel shelf in anthracite.
This is the most official and explicit description of full leather on F8x I have seen so far.

Nappa leather looks just like the current Merino leather (..i.e...no texture, unlike Dakota, etc. ).

Old post, but I have a question. How does extended leather differ from the simply leather options on a 3 or 5 series for instance? Is "leather" on those different from "extended leather" on something like the F80?

Regular 3/5 series leather is dakota leather.
Dakota leather is highly processed leather. While durable, it feels quite cheap.

M3 to M6 has merino leather.
It is much softer and has more upscale feeling to it.
However, if not cared properly, you can easily ruin the leather (eg. dry & cracked leather).

*Treat your leather like human skin. Giving good coffee aroma will give it some more longevity (not scientifically proven but approved by Lups).

So giving it coffee is not enough? Parky, you make me worry.

I understand the difference between Dakota leather and Napa leather, but is that the only difference between "regular "and "extended"? Is there leather on any additional surfaces with extended versus what would be in the leather package on a regular 3 series?

Yea, you get leather on door handle and additional leather on driver's side console area. Picture posted is from full leather, but it is same for M3 with extended leather.
You get less leather on the front seat because entire back side on M3 seat is plastic.

I got extended leather with CF trim and I love it...I didn't feel the full leather made a big difference for me.

I wouldn't have bought this car with extended leather. Too much plastic for $80k.

I didn't get the full and am quite happy.

Talking

I have the full leather in Sakhir orange in my SO M4. I looks spectacular!! The combination makes my car look more like $100,000 than it's actual $77,000 sticker, and I didn't have to pay $5000 for BMW Individual to get it!

Same here Full SO on order. In the UK it's quite a reasonable upgrade to a full leather cabin.

Just needs Alacantara headlining IMO but never mind.
