Good 200 TW Tire for 666m

Hey guys, any advice on what 200TW tires are good with running the 666m?

Looking through old posts and I see PS4S, AD09, Cup2s as an option.

Thanks!

The MPS4S is a 300TW tire. AD09, A052, RE71RS, SC3, RS4, V730 and CR-S are commonly used 200TW tires. The PSC2 is rated as a 240TW tire but the outer edge has a lower TW rating.

You may want to consider the new cup 2 connects. The original cup 2 is 180tw, the connects are 240. I've heard some pretty solid things about them.

The fronts, 265/30R20, is an absolute disease of a size and the only tyres you will find for reasonable price is Eagle Supersport R and Cup2 Connect. You can upsize and go get some AD09s which are the best value for money imho however 275 on a 9in rim, it will feel like shit and you may even get some rub.

I would recommend sticking some 4S on the 666m and reserve strictly for daily driving and then get a new set of 18s/19s exclusively for track days.

For 200TW tires, 275/30 F and 285/30 R, the AD09 is available.

I’ve used the Yoko Apex V601, which is a 280TW tire, on my r56 Cooper S and the tire performed better than the MPSS tires we had been using.

For 265/30 and 285/30, the AD09 is the only 200TW tire available. The 280TW V601 is available. Also, the 240TW MPSC2 is available. Lastly, there’s the 80TW Pirelli P Zero Corsa (PZC4) available in those sizes.

As for max performance, the 300TW MPSS and MPS4S are available in both the 275/30 & 285/30 setup and the 265/30 & 285/30.

My personal recommendations would be, in order of performance:
1. 265/285 200TW AD09
2. 265/285 280TW V601 + dedicated 18” track wheels/tires
3. 275/285 200TW AD09
4. 275/285 280TW V601 + dedicated 18” track wheels/tires
5. 265/285 300TW MPS4S + dedicated 18” track wheels/tires
6. 265/285 300TW MPSS + dedicated 18” track wheels/tires

I’d recommend 265/285 setups over 275/285 setups because a 275 needs at least a 9.5” wide wheel for proper support to extract the best performance from the tire.

I’m notot recommending the MPSC2 because it has a limited number of heat cycles so you’ll end up with a set of tires with a lot of tread depth left yet no grip. I’m speaking from experience. I’ve used the 180TW and 240TW versions. Even with the dual compounds on the inner and outer tread blocks, you’ll still heat cycle them out. If you were only using it on the track; i.e., drive to/from the track with 280TW or 300TW tires and switch to the MPSC2 at the track then the PSC2 is a viable track only option. Using it as a street-track tire, you’ll use up most of its heat cycles driving on the street.

Yes. I’ve used both the 180TW and 240TW versions of the MPSC2. Both tires are not ideal for mixed street and track use because, even with the dual tread compounds, the MPSC2s cycle out long before the thread depth is worn away. I still had 4 mm of thread depth left when the tires had grip levels equivalent to a 600TW tire, regardless of the tire tread temps. The current crop of 200TW extreme performance tires as well as streetable track and competition tires.

I used the original MPSC 80TW r-comp track tires (not the version used by the e46 M3 CSL and other OEM versions) until around 2010 and they performed extremely well for me, although many people disliked the MPSC. I was just as quick or quicker on the MPSC than people who used other popular r-comps at the time. I was hoping the MPSC2 would be an improvement over the MPSC but it sadly wasn’t. I haven’t tried the MPSC2R but it seems this tire has excellent grip when new but I don’t know what its grip falloff curve looks like.

Most of the 200TW extreme performance tires will not heat cycle out before you use up the tread to the wear markers.

Here are a few good 200TW choices:
-Bridgestone RE-71RS (I use it at the track)
-Continental ExtremeContact Force
-Goodyear Supercar 3 (I use it at the track)
-Hankook R-S4
-Yoko A052 (I use it at the track)
-Yoko AD09

There are more good 200TW tires than what I listed above.

You don't like any of the Michelin offerings? What would you run on the street to get like 10k ish miles out of?

You asked for the grippiest tires. The Michelin options are considered max performance 300TW tires whereas the tires I listed above are extreme (grippiest) performance 200TW tires. If you want a Michelin tire, I’d recommend the PS4S 300TW tire. This tire will have measurable lower performance than the 200TW tires I listed. The PSC2 240TW will heat cycle out with a lot of tread depth so that’s why I didn’t include it in the list

I’m a huge fan of the A052 or the SC3 or the RE-71RS, depending on the sizes you’re looking for. SC3 has a better range of widths if you’re looking for 19” tires. The A052 has a much better range of tire widths for 18” tires. The RE-71RS has the best 18” and 19” width offering.
