Non-spec wheels on rear
Folks
I bought my M4 Competition F82 (2019 UK spec) a couple of weeks ago and have been enjoying it immensely. So immensely that my back-end is telling me to fit some winter wheels and tyres. The temperatures in Scotland are consistely below 5 degrees C and wet - so some rain and winter tyres may well help. I bought some wheels and tyres from eBay and they have now arrived. My understanding is that the European spec for wheels is (from wheelsize.com): Front: Wheels: 8.5J x 18" ЕТ27. Rear: Wheels: 9J x 18" ЕТ29. This is what was advertised on eBay. Both front and rear wheels shoudl have 255/40 R18 tyres fitted - so spec is for staggered wheels, but square tyres. The wheels that arrived were 4 x 8.5J x 18" ЕТ27. According to willtheyfit.com - the new wheel will entirely sit inside the space the spec wheel would be. But - the tyre will sit slightly further way from the car from the specified position (as the wheel hub moves out) I'd value your thoughts on whether the supplied wheel will fit the rear of my car, and - if it does - any impact on vehicle or driveability Much appreciated |

Folks.
I have decided to return the wheels and purchase some BMW spec wheels, as I'm told that the car counts as 'modified' for insurance purposes if it's fitted with non-spec wheels. Not that I'm planning to crash it - but better covered than not and better not to give insurers an edge on any claims Some new wheels should be on the way soon Cheers |
