Coolant residue nearby turbo?
While workin under the car today, I noticed what looks like dry coolant on one of the turbos. What do you guys think it is and how should clean up this mess?
I recently had top mount intercooler leak so it was feeding coolant to the engine. not sure if this has anything to do with this... |

It looks a bit worse than it actually is, but either a loose bolt or failed o-ring.

I will clean up the mess a bit then check the bolt later this week. If it is not bolt problem, I guess I will make appointment with EAS to check it out. |

Did you ever solve this issue? Was it the bolt or the o-ring that had failed? I have a similar issue on mine and have purchased a new bolt/o-ring. Going to tackle the job myself.

Mines looked like that and I had to get the turbo coolant lines replaced for both turbos. About 6k at the stealership. Take god for extended warranty!

I think since they had it out plus it was under warranty they just replace everything. The lines did look like sh!t when I saw the photos.

My car is very low mileage (47k Kms) so surprised this has happened; unless some previous exhaust work (downpipes) has caused the issue, who knows. |

Haven't addressed it yet. Just in the process of collecting parts, I'll let you know when it's done but seems to be a more common issue on other water cooled turbos on the BMW platform (o-ring fails) but less common on the F80s..
