Powdercoated my 437Ms

Hi folks, wanted to share pics of a recent change I did to the F80. Sent in my 9 year old shadowlines to get powdercoated.

Really happy with the results and thought i’d share as well as provide inspo for anyone looking to refresh their own set and would benefit from the reference images.

The exact shade is “Toyota Classic Silver” from Prismatic Powders w/ a gloss finish. Prismatic makes a bunch of nice silvers, so this just comes down to owner’s preference.

The goal here was to achieve a motorsport silver look that the 437M never got from the factory and I think they knocked it out the park on this project.

Thanks!

Thanks for sharing. As I had posted in a different thread, I have four 437M wheels with minor curb rash and i am exploring different options to put pristine wheels onto the car. I like what you have done here. Can you share what the cost per wheel is?

Thanks, any good shop should able to sand out the curb rash in the prep stage prior to powder coating and get your set looking new again.

Pricing can be all over the place depending on quality of the shop and the finish you select, but I'd budget $600-900 to refinish a set like this into a single color with clear, including repairing any/all curb rash. Going to a dedicated wheel/tire shop could save you money/time as it's one less place to take the wheels for dismounting/mounting/balancing. Finally, if you need new TPMS sensors (like I did) it's a good time to give them to the shop when you drop the wheels off.

Thanks again for sharing the photos.

I think that I will take the powder coat approach as well. Cheaper than a set of new wheels and it accommodates my need to get some curb rash repaired. I like this shade of silver. A set of spacers will get the offset that I need/want.

Who sells the tiny ///M insert used on our M wheels?

Those inserts are available all over the web. Turner has them. I’m sure FCP Euro and ECS tuning too.

For the M-stickers, I just bought these replacements on eBay for like $15 and will report back on how the fit/finish is. If they're decent enough, they'll stay. If they're trash, i'll order the OEM ones off FCP Euro.

Edit: the eBay stickers are great, pretty much OEM. Highly reccomend.

Your M3 with those wheels look awesome!

I also have a mineral gray mettalic M3 (2016) with the 437M wheels. I had one of them refinished for curb rash at a local shop, but the paint is already peeling.

I am starting to look for some local shops who might be able to do the powder coating.

Prismatic is a great company, something like 6000 colors, and they’ll computer match to paint codes too. I sent them the oe color code from my Mars Red SL55, and they send 5 samples back, one of which looked perfect to me… Selected the color, had it sent to my powder coater and it turned out great!

Yeah I highly recommend getting them just re-done in whatever color you want.

It's nearly impossible to match the diamond cut finish the 437Ms come with with the same durability.
