Exclamation Should this intake pipe be this loose?

Had a CEL and some rare hesitation/jerkiness at low revs/partial throttle before the CEL

Scanned with the following codes present:
102901 Air mass 2, plausibility: Air mass too high
102E11 Hot film air mass meter: Electrical fault or mass air flow implausible
118002 Mixture control: Fuel-air mixture too rich
118102 Mixture control 2: Fuel-air mixture too rich

Have taken off the intake and charge pipe side (excluding J pipe which appears from a glance to be ok?) and cannot see any issues, nothing was lose, no cracking.

Part 4 (Breather?) of the image and where it connects to part 1 seems to have play, a bit more than I'd expect but not sure if over sensitive to it because i'm looking for issues?

The turbo intake end marked with a red x on the attached image (also part no.7) seems to sit very lose. From the diagram it doesn't look like they should have O rings unlike the charge pipe(10). There is what looks like a seal on the intake of the turbo. Not sure if too important as its on the negative side?

I put put it all back together making sure it was all tight, cleared codes and went for a drive. Checked again after drive (no CEL) however it returned these codes, from that drive.

102901Air mass 2, plausibility: Air mass too high
102E11 Hot film air mass meter: Electrical fault or mass air flow implausible
118002 Mixture control: Fuel-air mixture too rich.

I swapped the mafs over to see if the fault would go over the the other bank, went for several drives. On and off. Checking and now it won't return any codes. Drives fine, good power, slight hesitation at partial throttle, low revs or when gently pulling away so I unless it needs to relearn/calibrate what could it be?

Hi, there is an o ring for that intake inlet tube. Mine is very loose and wobbly for the last 3 years. I have the o rings but havent had time to change it out. I dont believe the errors are from a worn o ring though. You'll need to investigate further if replacing the o ring doesn't help.
Here is a diy with the part# and pics. You are changing the cylinder 4-6 turbo intake inlet o ring. https://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=2108699

you sexy man - it only went and fixed it

Ran and idled rough for the first 2 mins ( I assume ecu is adjusting mixture back, from where it was compensating prior)

Cleared codes and it runs fine, and throws no codes. Best £2.33 I've spent.

Thank you sir

The breather hose does have a bit of play and an actual gap of sorts at the top where it connects to the front inlet pipe. This is, from what I can see, due to the way it moves when the screw is secured. I don't think it's an issue as this end of the hose seals inside the inlet pipe and is just a crankcase breather for when the car is in boost (otherwise it vents from the main PCV valve).

The rear turbo inlet pipe has an O-Ring as does the front inlet pipe. These harden over time. I recently replaced both of mine and it solved a lot of issues. You'll notice how much harder it is to re-sit the rear pipe when you have the O Ring replaced.

i always though these were a bad design. I had a n55 that i ran with no o-ring and the car just adjusted to the fact the air didnt match what the mass air was reading. I got use to how it ran for months and it was amazing how if felt when i finally fixed it. best feeling in the work when you can fix multiple codes on a bmw for under$10!!!
