S55 exhaust setups

Hey was wondering if anyone had any clips with the valvetronic exhaust with catless downpipes. i’m running arm catless with a single midpipe currently but i still want it to be a bit more throaty with the sound. so if anyone has that setup or maybe same setup that i have with a non stock rear muffler than id be interested in that as well.

+1 on the Switchpath Gen 2, I have it on my F80 and enjoy it.

Love that the AWE muffler completely refines the S55 tone to be more bassy/throathy compared to the raspy lawnmower sound we're all used to.

3rd on the AWE especially if paired with an active EE mid pipe.

I’m in a similar situation. Also running arm catless DP w/single mid to comp muffler. Remus muffler seems to be a popular option but now I would like to hear the valvetronic setup and Awe muffler for a side by side comparison.

I’ve heard them side by side but take my feedback with a grain of salt since tastes are different and sound is subjective.

Base M3 with AWE + BM3 Comp tune and burble settings vs Comp with no tune. Both stock DP. Base model w/AWE had 2nd cats.

Tone- AWE was deeper, throatier and bassy. Even the resulting overrun pops were like rumbles.

Valvetronic was tinny, not lawn mower sounding like stock but also lacked that bass like the AWE. It has that high pitch sound of the E90 M3 but not as good sounding. Over runs were very crackly and sounded… terrible. Again this is my opinion.

Also the one thing I hate about the Valvetronic is the fact they only use 2 pipes at a time, one side for valve open and one side for valve closed, like what is this a 328i? Lol. You’d think they could come up with a better way of doing it. Idk, valves open I want all my pipes to sing but that’s just me.

Hands down I’d buy the AWE twice over before I touch a Valvetronic but then there are people who swear valvetroinc is the best. Hit up your local C&C guarantee there’s people with both there.

First of all thanks for your data point about the two cars. Something just so good about the AWE muffler. I've come to enjoy the cold starts too.

I have a base F80 6MT w/ the AWE and secondary cat delete and I'm on the fence all the time if it's worth getting a BM3/MHD license to access exhaust tuning and flash a OEM CS/Comp tune on the car. I think come spring/summer, I'll end up getting one just to hear more character from the car.

Below is my before vs after on the AWE Switchpath in case anyone is interested.

I think it’s worth having BM3 just for the DCT tuning and the GTS tune. I go back and forth between stage 1 and GTS.

I'm at 40k miles & have been thinking about doing a setup. I've had stock equipment with valves set to open in SP/SP+ (via bm3) and it's been plenty dramatic, but I think I'm ready to open it up. My only reservation is that it's a good amount of money to spend.
