Tell me about your 255mm Michelin PA4 square winter setup on 437M

I am taking delivery on an M4 with the 19" Style 437 M wheels.

Based on the feedback of this forum, I am going to order winter tires relatively soon since I have heard they start to sell out later in the year. Also based on this forum, I am going to go with the Michelin Pilot Alpin PA4's.

From what I recall seeing on the forum, those who have done the PA4's on 19's did a squared setup of 255/35/19 all around, even though the summer tires are normally wider in the rear.

My dealer is saying that stretching the 255's over a wider wheel in the back will create a noticeable difference in appearance. Can anyone offer feedback on whether this is truly noticeable and not advisable? Thank you...

I would not do this. Have you considered an option of getting a separate set of rims?

This way you save on mounting and balancing, perhaps alignment too. And you can always sell the winter set if you don't need it.

I'm running square 255/35/19 on OEM 19s and they look fine. I would definitely pick up an extra set of wheels to use for winter.

PS you may have troubling finding winter tires this late in the year. PA4s usually start coming available in Sept/Oct.

Edit - Here's a few pics of my winter setup. http://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1336448

You definitely need a spare set of rims. I run the above size of 19 inch tires in the winter and they're fine on the oem winter set of rims. But the original summer rims will take a beating from the salt, sand, and rocks in the winter. Plus the cost, hassle, and wear and tear on your rims with frequent tire changes. Just get a dedicated winter set.

This is the tire size recommendation from BMW. They run contis on 641m at that size with the different wheel size front to back. They even run that exact setup at their alpine winter driving school.

Dealer isn't BSing you it should be fine. Obviously there are a lot of wheel and tire gurus here that will put their expert opinions in.

If you live somewhere where you have to go snow tires in the winter, having a set of winter rims makes a lot more sense rather than running the stock rims in the winter. This is what I did for other cars when I lived in Michigan in the winter years ago.

The risk alone in the tire shop dinging your wheels during the install of the winter tires is reason enough to not do it. I would just buy a set of cheap wheels, yes it will be an extra grand or so, but the less hassle is worth it.

BBS makes a cheap wheel, like 200 a piece that I have ran for two years with no trouble and 245 square setup.

The rear tire definitely looks stretched on a 437, but it works perfectly ✔️

Here is my winter 255 square set up.

Name: IMG_8376.jpg

Pirelli Cinturato All Season SF3

Front 19x9 437M - 255/35R19
Rear 19x10 437M - 255/35R19

The fronts look fine however there is too much stretch on the rears. The wheels stick out of the tyre WAY too much for my liking. Ideally, i would like to buy another set of 437Ms, have the 19x9 fronts as a dedicated winter square set up and the 19x10 rears as dedicate track set up.
