F80 vs GT3 Suspension
I'm considering swapping out of my '18 M3 ZCP for some type of 911 (likely 991.2) over the next year. On paper, I'd love a GT3, but I've heard they ride rough, and it's difficult to find an in-depth comparison on the two cars since they're in different price ranges.
I'm specifically curious about the compliance of Porsche GT cars on Northeastern USA roads compared to the M3. I previously had a pre-LCI F90 M5, which was too stiff for me at times -- the M3 is a lot better on these roads. The GT3 is my top choice due to 1. sound and 2. theoretical value retention, but if too stiff to enjoy on a nearly daily basis on subpar roads, I'd likely look into an S / GTS / Turbo instead. Thanks for your input in advance! |

The GT3 you’re talking about is not rough by any means. It has much better suspension compliance compared to the F80. It behaves somewhat like the F80 ZCP in sport mode, but with a longer stroke. I'm not sure what you mean, but if the F90 felt rough to you, then you might want to reconsider and pick a non-GT car. The F90 has a longer wheelbase, while the 911 has a shorter wheelbase and is over 1,000 lbs lighter. It’s not a rough car, but it will definitely feel alive on the road, especially with its steering, in comparison to others.

If it isn't a GTxRS car, the suspension difference shouldn't be too much of a difference. The GTs should be stiffer.
I am more far more confused on you thinking the F90 M5 is rougher for you than a M3. For most other people that is the complete opposite. F80 M3 ZCP w/ those damn 666m wheels suck. Like clutch said, if the M5 is too much for you, this maybe too much. And I driven a 4RS through DTLA's shitty roads. You want the most, horrible massage you ever received? Drive a RS car through DTLA roads.

Some guys including me, have installed H&R M550 springs on their F90s. I remember that the ride was really tight on the pre-LCI models, especially the rear axle travel. While the 550 springs may not be the best solution for the track, they were really compliant on most other road conditions.

If you can get the Gt3, get the Gt3. It'll hold its value and you'll always have a 10/10 soundtrack to listen to. 8.5k+ rpm, reliability, N/A, will outhandle in every metric, rear engine, sexier, lighter, and etc. If you can swing the initial cost it shouldn't even be a question, sure it may be a little rough here and there but mate its a gt3. If its in your budget get the touring if handling is a concern; not even a YOLO decision as its going to hold its value proportionally better than any BMW. I know this is bimmer forms but this one is a no-brainer. Gt3>any BMW (<$1m)
