Mineral Grey Metallic - Making It Pop

I bought a 2016 Mineral Grey Metallic M4. While I like the MGM, there are other colors that I might have preferred given their ability to contrast carbon fiber trim. My car was a good value and from a known seller so it made sense. I am planning to add some exterior CF to dress up the exterior. My 437M wheels have curb rash. As I contemplate the rim repair, I must also allow for the possibility of new wheels. I am fascinated at the possibility of satin bronze paired with the MGM. Too much or is this exactly what this car needs?

I have similar feelings about my MGM F80. It came with the 666M Shadowline wheels and I changed soon after to a set of 437M Jet Black wheels. Subsequently I purchased a second set of 437M wheels which I had refinished in Ferric Grey with machined faces, shown below. I've come across some examples of MGM M3's with this wheel and color installed and thought it looked very Euro / sporty / classy so I decided to give it a shot. After not being able to find any original sets of Ferric Grey 437M's for a reasonable price or in good condition, I opted to pick up a spare set of the black version (seemingly a dime/dozen) and have them refinished. Unfortunately the wheels were done during this winter and the car has all-seasons mounted, so I won't get better photos until a couple months from now:

This one shows grey in the front, black in the back:

I have an F82 and instead of carbon fiber trim pieces, it has black trim pieces which I like better. It gives it more contrast and is different from the norm. My car also has matte bronze wheels as well which completes it I think. Again it’s different from the norm.

Five star detail! Well done.

It looks like you have spacers on the wheels. If so, what sizes?

Yessir! I'm currently running 15mm front and 12mm rear spacers, and to clarify I am using the stock wheel sizes 19x9 et29 front, 19x10 et40 rear (as opposed to a square setup). I'm considering bumping up to 15 mm rear spacers but have not decided yet.

EDIT: Regarding the rest of the MGM aesthetic, I also debated between gloss black and carbon fiber for the exterior trim pieces, and currently I've landed on a mix of both. For the front end I went with a gloss black MPerformance style (replica) lip and lower splitter pieces which tie in nicely with the kidney grilles and side vents; meanwhile, I have carbon fiber rear diffuser, lip spoiler and lower side splitter wing things which all tie in together amidst no existing OEM gloss black trim on the rear of the car. So then the big question was whether to go with gloss black or carbon fiber for the side skirts (not yet installed). Ultimately I landed on carbon fiber, with the thought that someday I might change out the front lip and splitters for carbon as well, at which point it will all tie in. From across the parking lot the gloss black and carbon fiber with clearcoat all look sort of the same so I can live with the mismatch for the time being. I'm interested to see if my opinion changes when I install the Ferric Grey wheels and no longer have the Jet Black 437M to tie the dark theme together.

I know what you mean about wanting to make it pop. MGM is dark color that understates a lot of accents. Lot of directions to go here.

I’ve swapped between the shadowlines and ferric grays a few times. Photos below. My conclusion is that I think mineral grey deserves a lighter wheel color. Bronze/Blue looks better on alpine/mineral white and black wheels (while slick) hide a lot of the detail in the rotor and blue calipers.

I'm probably going to powdercoat the (now 9 year old) shadowlines a much brighter gloss hyper silver which would be significantly more "silver/whiteish" than the ferric grays. Don't get me wrong, the ferric grays are beautiful, but just looking for that extra bit of oomf at this point.

That being said, end of the day, it’s your car. Get whatever color makes you happy. Life is short.

I like the appearance of your car with the CF. I also intend to install most all of the exterior CF elements.

I am slow so help me out here. Shadowline and ferric grey - I assume I have the darker shadowline finish and that is why it seems my wheels look black so quickly after a wash as they are mostly dark to begin with. The ferric grey is a lighter color but still two tone? Were they both an option in 2016?

I like the Apex wheel VS5-RS in satin bronze but i don't see it in a 19" option.

Regarding the 66M specifically, you are correct that both the Ferric Grey and Shadowline versions are two-toned; the Ferric Grey are painted grey (obv.) and have machined face with transparent clearcoat, while the Shadowline version are painted gloss black and have machined face with tinted clearcoat.
Below are a few photos showing the Shadowline 666M that came with my F80 for reference. I am not sure when the 666M Shadowline became available other than to say that it was the standard wheel option for 2018 model year when configured with the Competition (ZCP) package:

I honestly believe a dark brushed clear (or a bronze brushed clear) would work great on a MGM. It’s darker yet changes brightness with viewing and lighting angles. Here’s HRE R101LW in dark brushed clear on individual Moonstone Metallic.

So clean! Classic motorsport look you got there.

Funny enough this is the exact wheel design + color I'm looking at. Are these OEM CS wheels or Richland GT4s?
