Intakes

Best intakes that won’t throw a check engine light for too lean when tuned? TIA

Because I had MST intakes and it would throw that code so had to go back to just drop in filters, but want more sound.

I also used Eventuri intakes with no CEL. The rough idle at startup is due to the cross-sectional area of the intake where the MAF sensor is located is different from the oem intake cross-sectional area. The rough idle gets worse if you code out the cold startup and if you don’t wait 30 sec before touching the throttle, it’ll feel like the car is going to stall badly.

Stock intakes flow just fine and cause zero issues with idle, cold start, fuel trims, etc.

I have the Injen short ram intake and i dont experience any negitive side effects. Its not the loudest intake on the market, although it does sound better than stock. JMO

Ran project gamma front mount intakes for 1 year. No CEL. Occasional cold start rpm flutter in the winter specifically. Sounds loud from outside.

Once ran MST intakes. They were good and the heat shield they include keeps the CEL away. Only issue was rubbing aftermarket charge pipes.

Anyone here have removed their charcoal filters on the oem airboxes? I've heard it gives you more induction noise without replacing it with a set of aftermarket intakes.

lots of good brands that wont trigger the check engine light, you need to first start by setting a budget and a goal on what kind of intake you want (stock location vs front mount, closed vs open , aluminum vs carbon,etc..)

check out our website (link in the signature) we offer a lot of different options for all budgets

It’s almost like it was designed around the parameters of the car… Hmmmm. I wonder why people change them for worst performing mods lol.

Yes, I did this on my 2018 F80 Competition. It allowed more turbo spool sound but by and large was still only really audible when the engine was set to Sport Plus mode. I have since switched to the CTS Turbo open element intake setup which has a plenty of turbo spool sound in all engine modes. When it comes time to clean and re-oil the open element filters (and the downtime waiting for the oil to dry....) I may revisit this decision.
