Reset "Replace battery" error
Hello,
I stopped driving my M4 long enough for the IBS to disconnect the battery. I took the battery out, opened it up and managed to charge it by bypassing the IBS. I used Bimmerlink to re-register the battery and to monitor the voltages in real-time. The battery seems to be functioning properly and the voltages seem to be what would be expected in a healthy battery. Re-registering with Bimmerlink gets rid of the "Replace battery" message initially, but then the message shortly pops up again after driving for a few minutes. I thought perhaps the error is stored in the ECU, so I tried doing a hard reset of the ECU: disconnect battery, touch + and - terminals, and let any residual power drain. (Though I'm not 100% sure I did the procedure correctly, since I didn't have to reset the windows to auto-lower.) I'd like to get rid of the "Replace battery" message, but before I replace what could might be e a perfectly fine battery, I want to see if there's anything I'm missing. Thank you. |

For anyone with a similar situation -- good battery but "Replace battery" error that keeps coming back -- I think I solved it. I used Bimmerlink and deleted the error code in the "Error memory" section. Cleared the error, and all is well.
