Nope. I really don't plan on it either. Why?

P.S. If I have one advice is, do not think or worry about SCH. I can almost guarantee you that this happens to less then 2% of the total F8x owners. A good number that originally had it happen was heavily modded or it turned out the idiot money shifted. I have not ran into anyone in my area with this problem yet. I can always ask Justin when I go in, to see just how many he has heard but I have two friends who are SA along with Charlie who used to work on BMWs. None of them have mentioned seeing a lot of SCH, barely any in fact.

I would not worry about SCH. It's just one of those things that, if it happens it sadly happens. Luck of the draw.

Just curious, I never wanted to either, but I’m getting the itch. I’m not sure why. So I’m just trying to get as much info as possible to talk myself out of it.

Not really worried about SCH as it is expensive to fix, but not engine replacement cost from what I’ve seen. Besides it looks like most of those are DCT cars, unless like you said it was actually a money shift, which obviously isn’t the cars fault.

One thing about forums and the internet in general, is that things get blown out of proportion often. You get scared into doing something when it's just technology. Slightly overlooked design, or just technology things happen.

If this is one of those widly known issues like the Subbie WRX STI lawsuit, then it's different. There isn't enough to say one way or another. People with no business saying anything about engines bs the issue more.

Until I hear from a BMW engineer confirm something, hell with worrying about something like SCH. This isn't the V8 in the E90/E92 with an known design flaw. F8x and the S55 is an extremely sturdy engine and extremely underappreciated because of the acoustics of it. People bitch too much.

Yes and no. That’s what they are saying on the GT350 thread about the oil consumption/blown engine/ replacement thread. Which is roughly 60 pages long and growing.

But, in general I definitely agree with you.

I’ve got no acoustic problems anymore.

Fuck, fuck, duck.

I got the water seal coating thingy on to the two first bathrooms and off to buy tiles I went. Apparently my grumpy ass liked nothing so my lifelong dream of not smelling horrible is under fire.

This extreme moving and renovating thing is gonna take a turn for the worse if I don't find anything I like and fast.

The only slight problem with GS's is that they sometimes view other animals as delicacies to eat. But with some training, that can be mostly mitigated.

With mine, I didn't mind him taking a squirrel now and then, but it was a little frustrating when he repeatedly felt a porcupine would be delicious...even after getting quilled, he still went and found another one a month later (and got quilled again). I think the second time stuck with him, never happened again.

That's saving on lunch expenditures, not a problem and all dogs has that.

Now my main goal with my next gs is that she or he will not see the neighbours ugly mitten sized dogs as snacks. That's a real ass problem with me since I wouldn't mind seeing those eaten.

Fine, I go back to selecting tiles. Who knew I wanted a bathroom this badly...

Thanks! Yah we have two cats so we are already on the no eating them training program. It’s been almost two weeks and they are getting better. A couple more weeks and I think we can have them all out together and back to normal.

We consistently make fun of Apollo for chasing rabbits when I let him out the front door. He's never got one. But he did survive on his own when he was a stray. Now he does a fantastic job of guarding me when I'm working at home.

Wow that's a dog at work for sure!

All I wanted was a bathroom that had no grey, white or black in it. All I got was a grey, white and black. I'm going to need to adjust my goals for the next one.

I don't know why I bothered with the bathroom. What ever we put on won't survive 3 years before I get bored. Clearly the tiles I bought won't even make it that long so why the fuck all this white hating, Gray allergy with mild black resentment?

Hey Wah,

I remember you wrapped your OEM steering wheel w/ alcantara. I was wondering, any update on it? Like wear or how it feels etc?

Still good! No wear yet but I still have less than 10k miles. Best thing about it is that it retains the heated wheel function.

Oh cool okay

I'm inching more and more into the CS wheel but I want to retain my heating (even though I barely use it).

It's true, finns have invented a lot of milk related shit but sauna is the thing I should speak more of.

Hey Canadians, meaning Myz and M4TW

I saw your post my and I tried to answer it but it was too painful literally then, and same goes for your email, T! Good seeing you have a new book out. The last one was a disaster for me since in the end only our dog hadn't read it before I got my hands to it! I truly hope this time around I get the first read!

Got a GS puppy, which you probably saw above. Aside from that spending a lot of time at the rink as I'm still helping coach my daughters hockey team. Speaking of, it looks it could be an entertaining year for both of our favorite NHL teams.

And of course we still listen to the adventures of Lups here. How about you?
I did know about the new M3 - glad to hear you are liking it more. I will bet that the comp stuff adds a lot but I am also a bit curious about how much of your increased enjoyment comes from the MT. It has always been my impression here that many of the complaints about the car were things that might apply in a DCT but don't apply with an MT, at least in part because the car has to be driven differently with an MT....

What is crazy to think is that we are only a couple of years from the next M3 coming out.

As for the puppy - very cool. Our 'puppy' is now a year and half. Still very very much a puppy, but....a puppy we can leave at home and not worry she will destroy anything

....and tell me about the time in the rinks. I am not coaching (didn't play myself, so...) but my daughter is playing AA ringette this year - which essentially means she is on a travelling team. We have like 3 out of town tournaments between now and Xmas - 2 by bus, 1 by flight. It is ridiculous (in a good way) how intense it is. I think the team budget is something like $45,000.

....but once all those big dolla dolla bill professional ringette league contracts start coming through, then we will see the return on investment.

What ages are your kids again?

As for the NHL teams...yeah, could be an interesting year. The flames (for now) have found some secondary scoring (Tkachuk and Lindholm are playing at unreal levels) so have won a few games...but I am worried about long term. Our other typical weak spot (goaltending) looked solid last year, but this year Mike Smith is starting to look his age (Sadly). What a waste. That guy was an elite goalie who got stuck for his prime years in fucking phoenix, wasting behind terrible teams, completely underappreciated and underused. Who knows, maybe he'll find his game again but....if he can't get a save percentage over 0.900 (let alone something decent like 0.910 or 0.920) we won't be a threat in the long run.

(i just looked. he is at 0.871 right now. Wow. Rittich is playing a lot better in backup (0.927) so....i guess we'll see)

Havent followed the Wild too much - what has been the key to the team so far?

I’m not sure how much the MT plays a factor in it. The comp package is nice, but as I (and many others have said) it is not night and day. After having it for almost 3 months and 5k miles now my favorite part about the comp package is how it has smoothed out the ride and responses to bumps. It is much more composed than my old ones were. Which, is nice since I have a 60 mile round trip commute every day. I also like the reworked MDM calibration, it doesnt just cut the power any more, but it actually works quite a bit more seamless now. Everything working together has made it a much more enjoyable car to own/DD for me.

I will say, I was extremely close to picking up an Alfa QV, but the lack of MT really bummed me out and helped get me back in to my BMW dealer to really try my current car out. All this plus roughly about 15% off with eventually an extra set of 437 wheel/tire/TPMS thrown in sealed the deal. The most my AR dealer would go was around 5k off with 9 cars sitting there all summer. 8 of the nine are currently still there and my guess they still will be come next spring. So with that in mind the MT option definitely played a big part in my decision.

For the Wild it has been the same story. They struggle to score goals, but Dubnyk has been on fire this year so they are off to a pretty good start. But, that is only going to last so long and I think they are the oldest team in the NHL. It is the same basic core of players that has been around for quite awhile and they’ve never been past the second round with them...........so being older etc I don’t expect a whole lot different this year. Hopefully one of our teams makes a nice run next spring.

Holy shit that is an intense schedule for your kids sports. This will be the first year my daughter gets a full year of real games etc so I’m guessing things will be getting much busier in the next couple of years. I never played either, but they are always looking for volunteers and my daughter still likes having me around so I figure I’ll go with that as long as I can.

Edit: We just have the one 8 year old.

You know what is actually allowing me to speak good things about the QV?

Their rabbit fan base that things 0 - 60 # means something. Case in point, that mcc dude.

I havent actually seen any QVs here, and only a few Giulia.

I think it is a great looking car (total F80 ripoff is why) but agree the lack of MT is a killer. If/when BMW ever kills the MT then the C63, etc, might have more profile with me but...for now...I like my stick.

That would be great.

Yeah, it is pretty nuts for my daughter this year. Son is a bit more 'normal' (a couple of tournaments out of town, but nothing crazy, still mostly in it for fun....) but he is starting to get up there in terms of size/etc. He is 11, so up here that is 1st year Pee Wee. Plays 2 years of that and then into Bantam - which is the first level at which they allow hitting now. (though they only allow it at the top 3 levels of play). That will be interesting. We essentially convinced/talked/pulled him out of football this year as we really don't need his brains rattled so I am not sure what we'll do when he gets to Bantam hockey.

I saw you looked at that thread on F80 stats. I hadn't realized they are now done production but...yeah, i guess they are. I am just coming up on extending Lucy's warranty. I'll probably stretch it for the long haul - not sure if i will keep her for 5 years but I might as well make her more sell-able should i choose. Plus I am sure it won't take a lot of repairs to make it worth the money.

Anyway, big day in politics for y'all down there. Will be interesting to see what happens. I have become a committed skeptic about US politics right now so, despite all the polls, I just assume the worst.

As principal Skinner said: Prove me wrong kids, prove me wrong....
