More than one person that I've read (most recently, Kingsley Amis) has said that comparing even Trump in the 80s to the Trump of today indicates some neurological decline.

Whether he is suffering from something like that or not, I don't know; perhaps it is just years of being a rich, fat fucker who gets his ass kissed and put on TV that he believes his own bullshit and believes he can say whatever the fuck he wants and nobody will call him on it.

In terms of your list, part of it is that he is just a pathological liar. As I've said before, he literally has no concept of truth or falsehood - whatever he needs to say, he says it and in that moment becomes true for him. Its a type of sociopathy or something. I've met a few people like that over the years - always a bit of a scary encounter to meet someone who doesn't know or care whether what they say is true or not. They tend to be the most dangerous types.

I don't think that's a list of examples of him being an idiot. He is basically selling everyone within his reach what they want. For example if I was to do the same here I'd post a meme of a dog running around a golf course with an expensive earphones while his master is parking a BMW badly. Done, I'd get so many likes I'd be popular!

Now, reading a room and being able to actually be factual while negotiating a deal with long term implications to peoole is hard as we saw with the tpp and the Syrian refugees in Europe. A politician that can actually appeal to voters enough to get them to work with them for a better future is something we haven't had in a while.

The town where the team was based is about an hour east of where I grew up so it hits literally quite close to home. But, in terms of national news, this is a huge/devastating story in Canada right now. I expect everyone on this thread knows the drill, but given the size of this country (meaning a 'close' drive is 3 hours away) and the number of kids here who play sports like hockey for whom traveling long distance for games is part of the routine, this is every parent's worst nightmare. This is just.....shitty.

(these kids play Junior A hockey, so they are late teens (16-17 ish). It is a step below a Major Junior league (which would be the last level before a pro league). Some of these kids likely could have gone on to play in the NHL.)

One of my fears also when traveling on the road so much. That truly sucks for the community.

I am guessing that we put on at least 10,000+ miles for soccer in a yr. I just turned over 40k on my 1 yr old Landcruiser. Only 25-30 is for work.

Like the guy who bought Phoenix university...had the military say they would not pay for Education at Phoenix University after they leave the military (GI Bill?). The market price dropped 75% or something (for profit school). This guy buys the school, then has military reinstate the school as eligible for reimbursement of tuition.

This has been happening since the 30s, the modern move is the companies just pay lobbyists and consultants who funnel the money directly to congress people.

Then there's the whole Carlyle Group thing that functioned as private equity group directly tied to the Executive and invested in companies with government contracts, or that would benefit from upcoming legislation or regulatory changes. The original defense of this because you need smarties in Washington, but they're not incented to do public service because they can make a fortune outside, so you basically promise them a job in Carlyle once they've done their 20 years in public service.

I used to work for a lobbyiest firm in DC and this was the tried and true plan by most of the staff.

Nowadays DC staff just go get jobs with any VC, PEG, Unicorn, or take a senior position at a corporation and they're instant millionaires.

Most of the house and senate are there purely for the grift, they don't give two shits about public service.
