What's the one cooling based item you've been most happy with on track?
I know these cars run well in the heat completely stock, but I will be testing with mine in the coming months in 100f heat at 4500ft so I want to try and get ahead of the potential derating when it's getting really hot.
I can't afford to throw everything at it, but if someone tells me "X radiator" or "Y charge cooler" really makes a difference to longevity of sessions that would be really useful information. I'm trying to avoid throwing parts at it just because I like shiny new parts. My bank balance can't take it, but the car derating mid test would be an issue for me. |

I don't have it yet, but I want to fix it this summer, but on number one is on track brake cooling. Together with better brake fluid and pads of course.
A member here on the forum sells great brake cooling kits. https://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1897123 |

If you want cooling looking at bimmerworlds cooling deflectors. I recall they said it was 80% of the cooling of ducts and way more practical and easy to live with.

Make sure you do proper cool down laps, open the hood between sessions and bring fresh undies -- driving home with swamp ass is no fun. The BW brake deflector kit is simple and expensive. You'll also want to remove the dust shields for added air flow. |

I have brake temp paint on my discs, I like the look of those deflectors, I'll have to design and print a set and see if they make a difference. So far I've not had much brake fade (RS29s and Castrol fluid), though I have cracked discs. The joy of 3d printing is you can flow the air much better as you can print curves and veins.
I was more thinking engine cooling. From a bunch of reading it seems like replacing the chargecooler is a waste of money, as are the oil coolers, but maybe the radiator is worth while, replacing with the larger CSF product? |

I went with porsche GT3 air ducts for the brakes. They were like $15 bucks each side and i opened up the center of the heatshield so air could get through to the rotor vanes. They help but im sure they arent as efficient as the other ones mentioned in the thread.
If you are worried about engine oil temps, there is the mosselman oil cooler thermostat that opens up 20 degrees earlier than stock but honestly i would skip this. The S55 doesnt really have any issues with oil temps unless your oil cooler is clogged/blocked. I would upgrade the oil cooler first b4 changing the oil thermostat. For intake air, upgrading the front heat exchanger is more beneficial than upgrading the top mount intercooler. Doing both will be better but for the top mount, the top tier products actually make a difference. The bimmerworld one is by far the best, wagner and mishi are slightly better than OEM but can handle more power. All the other products underneath them are similar or slightly worse than oem but they are all metal and dont leak. The OEM intercooler's capacity is designed for stock tune/power/heat and does a great job but it can get easily overwhelmed with a tune/more power. |

Main issue I ran in high heat was OEM brake pads.
I realized while OEM pads do well on track in cooler temps once it gets above 90F and the speeds pick up they tend to melt. So now I switch to PFC08 pads a week or two before the track day. I wish I had some cooling duct solution for the brakes but this is also my daily driver in the summer and I don’t want to limit the wheel turning angle or anything like that. |
