Post a clip. Some folks prefer the sound next to the intake under the hood. Here is my street test... https://photos.app.goo.gl/MYVfqVJqpgJ342yu5 |

As long as you turned on 32 bit float audio recording option (which you should). You can always fix the audio peaks in post. 32 float is a huge plus on osmo vs gopro. I did the mic2 direct to the bumper and the audio quality was better than the panda mic into mic2. In perfect world i would always run direct on bumper. Prefer to have the panda mic plugged in so I know it is recording and can be controlled from inside the car at arms length. Would annoy me to have to turn on the unit and record before getting into the car/etc. If it rained or was 110 heat out i would have concern for the unit external. Getting super solid audio and video is a process It takes a few rounds to get everything going smooth.

Hard to tell what needs to be tweaked without demo.

I didnt read the entire thresd but I’m curious if anyone has used an insta360 x4 for recording with mic on rear bumper? Any thoughts if you did?
I have a GP and I’m throwing it in the trash (FB marketplace lol). It sucks beyond believe and i cant believe they atill exiat as a company. For audio i have a Tascam but even with input as low as possible it still clips horribly. I do my best to fix post track but i feel like there has to be a better way. I’m using a rode mic with deadcat. |

great idea in the trunk. the mic mounted under the license plate has been the best for me so far, but inside the trunk might clean it up a little. i will try that soon

Got my first semi decent audio which has been a challenge for sure! Never realized how hard it is to capture audio on a car. Still learning as I go

Will definitely be experimenting capturing engine sounds next time. I think it might be nice to have a mix of inside the engine bay and exhaust. I heard people place a lav in or near the air box for engine sounds. Thanks for the feedback

This weekend I will do some tests with the mic placed in various sides inside, I like to be able to hear everything, the gear changes, the sound of the engine/exhaust. Here without external mic, quite natural: |

Here is the mic 2 placed on the passenger side next to intake. Is sounds like a sewing machine at low RPM. Afterwards the mic was very warm from heat exposure so be careful not to damage it. For my next track video I plan to sub in the soundtrack from a Mazda 787B rotary engine. https://photos.app.goo.gl/UAifVQfEzx6fKSi96 |

For me, this would be the perfect sound, I put the mic2 near the mirror:

I played with mic2 at Laguna on a fairly warm day. I placed mic2 on the trunk lid close to the license plate. After 7~8 minutes, the mic2 shutdown because it became too hot. Probably the M carbon spoiler is not helping by creating too much turbulence that channels some of the exhaust gases back to the trunk. I even tried placing the mic just below the spoiler on the trunk. It still got cooked. The sound is pretty good, but the overheat issues are a deal breaker. A wired mic is the way to go.
