Got the sound down, need to get the video settings down next. This was my instructor driving my car for some fast laps.

Yah he was driving in the intermediate group to not potentially slow the advanced group but he was very clearly much faster than everyone else in that session.
I think I need to but a little bit of the sun 250hz frequencies because it’s not that quite as bass-y IRL. Still relatively bass-y but I think the Purple Panda doesnt capture the entire low end frequency band so the real low stuff stick out more. Great little mic tho and I’m happy with how easy it was to get the setup down… literally clipped it behind my license plate. And now I think about it, that positioning could actually be affecting the sound capture and resulting in making the low end more obvious.

I swapped out my entire recording rig about a month ago to the DJI OSMO 4 with the wireless mic 2 transmitter.
Forgot to leave a mini review here. Has been a really solid upgrade over my gopro8/purple panda setup. Has been game changing in many ways: - Can freely place the wireless mic anywhere you want (strong ass magnet built in) - No longer need cables dangling off your head/seat/car to get amazing audio - Can use any wired mic into the wireless unit. (purple panda/etc) - If you use a OSMO 3/4. There is no need for the receiver and transmitter combo. Can purchase only the 100$ transmitter to get up and running. - The unit has a gain setting that allows you to fine tune. (I always leave it at -12 gain) - The audio is recorded with 32-float format. (Any form of clipping or distortion can be fixed in post with perfect audio/normalization) - The osmo cam doesnt have recording issues like gopros (overheating/failure to record/etc) - Battery life is much better than gopro. 100 mins vs 45mins at 4k (I run it off battery bank either way) - OSMO has a detachable mounting system that is AMAZING for track cars when you want to pop it in-and-out without messing up angle/composition/setup/battery. Here are a few examples of the OSMO4/MIC2 setup. No examples with F80 on track. Havent been back with F80 since camera purchase. F80 driving around town test: E46 M3 out at thunderhill west:

Awesome! I also recently switched from a GP Hero 9 to the DJI Osmo. The GP just never worked consistently. The final straw was when it glitched out for my once in a lifetime record setting session. Q: is the magnet on the wireless mic strong enough to safely secure to the license plate area? |

It has a nickel sized magnet that snaps to the clip. The magnet is suuuuper duper strong. Sticks to metal without any worry of it falling off. Even the most extreme G's. I actually have a really hard time getting the magnet off the car. Have to use a soft headed tool.

my 2019 AMG GTR in a busy Laguna Seca session with a purple panda mic. It was impossible to get a clean lap, and the front tires were almost done. Enjoy the exhaust note

I also bought the Osmo Action 4 with Mic2, where did you put the micro? On the bumper? Edit: I've seen the video, I'll try it on the bumper. Last edited by Track/S; 08-05-2024 at 12:14 PM.. |

I know you did ask for a review or opinion but I'm really impressed with the DJI action and wireless mic. It connects seamlessly and the the battery life of both the camera and mic are superior to the GoPro. The only downside is the camera does not have exposure lock which is a nice GoPro feature. I've tested the mic next under the hood (next to the intake) and above the rear license plate. I was worried the mic would fall off on track but it held tight at Lime Rock. The WGI bus stop curbing will be the true stress test. |

E46 has permanent panda mic in engine bay. I've slowly converted a few friends to the same setup. Is very good for track duty. Used it for 7 track days so far. Never messed up. Never fought me. Worked in 110* heat day. Another F80 example from last week while i'm here:

Yes, but you have to buy the receiver. Dont think you can do 2 just from the camera alone. (Double check all this. Going off memory)
