TRACK ONLY BUILDS! What can be removed vs. what is required (modules, coding, etc..)
I noticed there aren't very many open discussions on the F8X platform for track only builds, minimum requirements for starting, coding etc... This is a way for me to document what I stumble across, learn and / or bash my head against to help the next person.
Bare minimum required to start / limp the car around (stripped interior): -Instrument Cluster -Clock Spring (My wipers defaulted to the on position with the clock spring unplugged. -RFID Key fob sensor (there is a second one in the front of the center console) -Start Button -DCT Shifter Mechanism *** Thanks to BMMMW14 *** "One note is that the fuel gauge runs thru the head unit, so that will not work..." "Keeping the remote key detectors is critical (one mounted to the front cup holder had me stumped for a while). I would code out everything possible (Alex at Alpine did a great job... just tell him you are doing a full gut) before gutting everything else the errors are harder/impossible to get rid of and set your M modes the way you want." *** A/C DELETE F80 M3 & M4*** You need to evacuate your A/C system prior to disconnecting any lines. The factory tensioner works as intended and the alternator spins the correct direction still with the A/C deleted. Parts Needed: Qty: 2 Barbed Plugs measuring 3/4" OD (Line ID measures 3/4") for blocking the coolant lines going to and from heater core. (Re-use OEM clamps) Qty: 1 Gates Micro V K080365 serpentine belt or equivalent length other brands Simple as: -removing the water pump belt -removing the A/C & alternator belt -removing the A/C compressor & lines -replace with the shorter length belt. Current weight: 3,42X lbs Last edited by chriskeefe; 07-16-2021 at 07:42 PM.. Reason: Added additional information for A/C Delete |

Love this! Congrats on the build
If you want further inspiration or run into questions, this build from Missle Works in CO is pretty rad. I see it at the track quite a bit.

I believe full weight was 3651 (i don't recall fuel level) and its down to 3429 in its current state. Hoping to drop another 150lbs and add back 50 or so with the trunk and interior.

Yeah, AC, I-drive and radio are all gone. One note is that the fuel gauge runs thru the head unit, so that will not work... but given I get 3t minutes to a tank it's pointless anyways! Keeping the remote key detectors is critical (one mounted to the front cup holder had me stumped for a while). I would code out everything possible (Alex at Alpine did a great job... just tell him you are doing a full gut) before gutting everything else the errors are harder/impossible to get rid of and set your M modes the way you want. I am pleasantly surprised how few things "went wrong." Unfortunately I didn't do a great job documenting, but here are a couple pics.

Fantastic build! I see that you solved for the AC motor…by getting a shorter belt. Were you able to confirm this?
