Help: Painting Frozen Black
Hope I can get some good recommendations on a shop/place that can do a factory-quality shop on BMW Frozen Black. My M3 got a decent scratch/dent on the front fender panel (see pic). Since it's a custom paint job, I am worried about the paint not matching later. The panel definitely needs to be replaced but there is no damage on the surrounding parts either.
I'm in NYC Metro but would be willing to ship the part across the country if there is a place that can do it better/well. Side question: Would you guys recommend doing the paint work separately? I.e., buy the part, get it painted & then have a body shop install it? Thanks! |

Lucky for you BMW North America Headquarters is in Woodcliff Lake, New Jersey - where they train professionals in painting frozen paint.
I saw them featured on Ammo NYC video here: https://www.ammonyc.com/detailing/bmw-frozen-paint/

Sorry to see this OP. Assuming this is an insurance repair I'd just take it to the dealership and let them handle it. Frozen colors are notoriously hard to match. Might need a full respray of the car, but if insurance covers it don't stop until you're happy with it.

From the pics it looks like it's just the front fender, maybe you can get a new one sent from Germany painted. If it was frozen white it would not be too hard to match. Black paint in general is difficult especially frozen.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll stop by overseas autobody tomorrow and have them take a look. Unfortunately not a insurance claim (would be my own collision if I choose to). Looking to do a professional fix but wouldn't re-spray the car.

I know everyone thinks their car is a unicorn, but J&B Bodyworks will surely be able to fix it to factory standards. Or possibly better! Frozen paint isn't impossible, it just takes experience and patience. They have it all! They are probably painting a frozen car 5x the value this week without any worries. At the very least, just pop by and talk to them to see what they say. Costs nothing!

Any chance you figured it out? Which route did you go and were you happy with the result? How did the finish handle compared to factory finish. I Have a Frozen Grey e92 and need to get the fender, hood and bumper resprayed, Just worried that BMW specifically does not do a blend at all on Frozen finishes but these body shops want to do a blend.
