Have you taken a road trip in your M3/M4?
Hey everyone! How's everyone doing?
Has anyone done a road trip in an M3 or M4? How was gas mileage? What about wear and tear? Did anything go wrong? Let me know all about it! (Show some pics if you can too haha) |

Drove from SF to TX 25 hours. Fantastic car. I enjoyed it. 6spd though. No issues. Gas mileage was 28mpg average and I varied speeds between 70-100

Not sure if this counts as a road trip but, 550 miles from BMW PCD in Greenville to Central FL. No issues.

1,000 miles in Europe and then a ton from LA to Dallas. Awesome car. Not bad for long trips.

Longest drive was to Palm Springs/Thermal for M School. It was a blast! MPG wasn't an issue because it was too fun to care.

Cross country trip from Boston to Oakland. Averaged 25mpg. Loved it the whole way. By the way that mileage was on a car packed to the brim with stuff - it had weight. Very comfortable the biggest issue is the road noise if you have passengers in the rear you are trying to have a conversation with

Just did a 5.5 hour trip from SF to Ojai. Averaged 26.6MPG in efficient mode. Very comfortable but there's a good amount of noise at 80 mph so it can be hard to have a conversation.

Flew one way from NC to ATL and drove it back 6 hours same day. I averaged around 28 mpg and the whole drive back was very comfortable and pleasant.

Drove the M4 from Lime Rock CT to Blue Ridge Georgia. Very pleasant road car. I also have driven it several times from Lime Rock to Lake George, NY. On that trip while cruising on the highway with the DCTin manual mode I held it in 7th gear on a long stretch of Interstate and was getting an indicated 30MPG. I regularly take it between my homes in Lime Rock, CT and Manhattan.

Boston to DC.. 3 people in car...and even 4 at times when there was no other option.. No issues other than the constant drone of my exhaust that drove everyone crazy.. My radar detector (Escort 9500ci) also knew of all the many photo radar traps in DC.. I didn't know what the alert was until a friend told me it was photo and slow down.
Boston to Nova Scotia (Cabot Trail).. 2 people in car.. It was about 2 days of driving and the exhaust drone was not as bad because I had put my cats back on.. no issues at all... car used 1 liter of oil on the trip, there was some hard driving.. http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=855044 --mike |

On our May, 2016 Euro Delivery, my wife and I drove our M4 approximately 2800 miles in 15 days, through Germany, Austria, Italy, Switzerland, back to Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, and back to Munich. We did this with 30 other people in 10 M2s, 2 M3s, and another M4, and a couple of rental cars.
Along the way we visited BMW Classic in Munich, BMW M GmbH headquarters in Garching, spent 3 days driving the Italian Dolomites, 2 days driving the Swiss Alps, had the 1200 mile service done on all of the Ms at a dealer in Stuttgart, and did track days at Nurburgring Nordschleife, Circuit Park Zandvoort, and Spa Franchorchamps. For pics, search for #CentennialMTour on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. I've also driven from San Diego to Monterey, about 450 miles each way, three times for HPDEs at Laguna Seca, taking two days each direction, to drive the twistiest roads and avoiding freeways whenever possible. Mileage? Who cares! No issues on any of the trips. A great car for a road trip!

700 miles around Germany during the ED...to California a few times (from Arizona). It's fine for a road trip...EXCEPT....of course there is no spare, just the BMW fix-a-flat and a compressor. I had a flat in my M5 once and after that I bought a space-saver spare, which works for the M5 and Z4M coupe. I hadn't gotten around to buying one for the F80 yet when my wife took it to California and had a flat tire on the way back. Such a PITA. First there is getting towed and then there is finding a place that has the tires, etc. So, that is my only beef with this car on a road trip. I ordered a DynaPlug kit and will be buying a space-saver spare for either the F80 or the M2C that I am considering swapping it for.

Drove from Denver to Santa Fe for wkend on my AYM M4. Averaged about 24 mpg, road noise was fairly loud depending on road conditions. BUT, I had the opportunity to take it to 130 on many of the straight stretches. Way fun!!!
