Connected drive for 2015?

I just bought a 2015 m4 and was trying to connect the my bmw app to it, I emailed bmw and two days later they said connected drive doesn’t work on anything older than 2017
I was wondering if there was still some kind of work around to be able to send the address to my car through the app or something? Otherwise I’m guessing my only other choice is to retrofit apple CarPlay?

Not without swapping hardware. The 3g service on the car is discontinued, therefore the car has no wireless connection to be able to receive anything. If you used MMI CarPlay or the like, and then you could use that for navigation.

Okay thanks for replying, so does this even stop me from adding my car to Mygarage in the my bmw website? I keep trying to add it and it’s saying my production date is incorrect.

That might be a separate issue, but even if you get it added successfully the capabilities will be limited. The car can’t communicate any telemetry to the servers, so things like current mileage, gas level, remote unlock, etc won’t function. This happened to me back in the day and the app became mostly useless.

Ok thanks, I guess I’m going to just buy a apple CarPlay mmi or touchscreen unit for nav, typing in addresses with controls is super inconvenient

Yup. CarPlay/android auto MMI with Apple/google maps or Wayze is going to be way easier, best solution you can get without spending $1500 to update your hardware. Good luck!

It can be done. It’s thousands of dollars. It gives you all the features that the F Series were capable of which adds security and peace of mind to owners. Several have done it. Depends on if it’s worth it to you.

not to highjack OPs thread but what does the connecteddrive really do for $100+ a year? mine literally unlocks the car checks milage and fuel. maybe its because I have a CS. waze or google maps for nav though car play so IDK what else I would use it for.

Am I missing something?

All I really wanted was to send my address to the car lol, but since I can’t I just ordered the andream apple CarPlay mmi

It's a bundle for $120 a year. It includes things like live traffic, map updates, tracking your car location on MyBMW, Remote Lock/Unlock/Horn, and venting. It used to be broken an apart like you could get live traffic for like 50 bucks a year or something. But now BMW bundled it so you can't just get live traffic.

Just remember, BMW Emergency SOS Service does NOT require ConnectedDrive, it's there for free as technically feasible.
