Dealer Says CF hood needs to be replaced
I took my M4 GTS that I just got last week to the dealer yesterday for regular service. later that day they said that they couldn't get the hood shut and that it needed new strikers under warranty. Fine. Today they called again and said that they are in touch with their BMW rep because the hood needs to be replaced entirely because there was an issue with the threads for the latches on the hood. it has worked fine for me other than the latches on the hood being loose, and having to turn the latch on the driver side straight each time for the hood to shut. the car has not been in an accident and i'm not sure what to make of the situation. Has anyone else had similar issues? any help would be awesome.

Not 100% sure how they made the hood but its probably a thread insert that is put in during the fabrications of the hood and is not replaceable. The hood would have to be replaced if the threads are damaged.

That is a possibility. However it was a little janky. I just didn’t think much of it my f80 m3 had hood latches that were slightly loose too and that car was brand new. Possible recall?

I have to slam mine to close... I couldn't get the darn thing too close... nicely. If i let it down slowly and press on each end, it does nothing. They probably messed something up. If it needs to be replaced, let them. As long as it's covered under warranty and not on your dime.

Was going to post the same... Probably went all octopus trying to latch the thing. No worries if it's a warranty replacement.

I investigated a little further at the weekend and found the hood is not aligned correctly and the left fender/hood gap is larger than the right side gap. The right hook barely engages the latch, hence the closure problem. Now that I have noticed this alignment issues, it bugs me. Hopefully the dealer can adjust the hood (under warranty).
