BMW G80 M3 vs F80 M3 Exhaust Sound Comparison

I had a chance to film the exhaust of the new G80 M3 and did a brief video to compare it my M3 Comp.

G80 M3 has a deeper sound and removes almost all the rasp.
F80 M3 has a higher pitch and is much louder overall with crackle and pops from burbles.

Both sound good but new G80 M3 has a much more muted and less distinctive exhaust sound.

Your f80 sounds a little more throaty. Wonderin the g80 needs to break in some to get a similar sound.

Both sound good though...

Does the new car not pop and burble like the F8X Comps? I really enjoy those on my car now.

Perhaps it’s due to the OPF/GPF/PPF shit.

I’ve noticed this on 2019> models of other brands as well.

The new car is much more muted but still sounds decent.
It doesn’t have the high pitch sound of F80 and the burbles don’t have the crackles or pops anymore.

G80 does sound deeper and doesn’t sound as raspy. It’s not a unique note like the F80 was. The burbles are very understated. The sound is less raw which is pretty much true for the G80 overall compared to F80.

Both sound like crap unless you equalize the length of the downpipes or anywhere after before the pipes meet again. The S58 claimed to take care of it but fell short and it's still a non equal length downpipe design. A stock S55 sounds like a Pontiac.

Equal length:

*Keep in mind that this is a thin titanium muffler so the setup is not ideal, any stock or aftermarket SS exhaust will sound cleaner, this is just louder and more raspy/ truck'ish until you get close to redline.

Like my pops and bangs. Another win for the F80.

Love my f80 but the exhaust always sounded like crap. Only reason I enjoyed it was because of the popping. I’ve heard new civics that sound better than both the g80 and f80s with just a catback.

Sounds like just a tiny bit louder, deeper S55 with OPF.

F8x has always, and will always, sound terrible. It's the one single thing I dislike about my F82.

That, and no sync button on the dual climate control.

The G80 in Cold Start sounded like my lawnmower. I sure as hell would not buy a $80k car to make me feel like I was mowing the lawn. Hilarious.

Nah it's not pretty good. Whole car is indicative of being released in the pandemic.

The cold start is the worst part and sounds just like F80.

Looks like you're comparing F80 base model with G80 Competition model. Shouldn't you have used the F80 Competition model (which sounds slightly different) for better comparison?

That said, I slightly prefer the lower tone of the G8x exhaust.

Actually, this is a base g80 vs comp f80. Hence why this g80 lacks burbles

The Burbles are there on G80 when its in Sport + mode ( I clearly state it in the video). They are just very muffled compared to F80 and no longer have crackle and pops.

There is no difference in exhaust sound between base and Comp model for G8x as per BMW.

I’m not crazy about the sound in this video.
The EL make F8x sound Civic with fart can exhaust (very tinny) depending on setup. Need to hear it in person but in most videos - i prefer AA single pipe with Comp exhaust.

Shit you're right, that's amazing. Means you don't compromise on anything exhaust related by getting the manual
