It never felt like the instructors were holding us back or keeping us from going faster than we could handle. We were really surprised they'd let "novice drivers" drive like that, because it felt like they were letting us push the cars to the absolute limit.

And then the instructors took us for a hot lap...

It only took about two or three corners with a pro to put us firmly back in our place and realize we were barely tapping into these car's full capabilities!!! Overall, it was an amazing day and well worth $250.
You summer it up perfectly. Could not agree more with you said above! When the instructor said "these aren't your cars, so let's have some fun", I knew we were in for a good time!

Silly question but which lot did you park in? I'll be there Sunday AM...

Great photos and comments. I'm pumped!

You enter through Tunnel 2 and follow the service road around to the paddock area. Parking is well marked by BMW signage.

I went by this morning to watch for a while and take some photos. Looked like a well organized event with lots of different driving stations. My son and I are signed up for Tuesday morning, so I may see some of you then. I will try to get some photos downloaded shortly.

You get to park inside next to the pit garages. Once you get to the track, there will be plenty of signs to guide you in the right direction.

I was there yesterday morning, 28th. I had a blast as well. I also only had my phone, but I took some videos. I'll try to get them up soon.

I hope the OP is okay with adding photos to this thread. These are from this morning's session at COTA. Other than a couple shots of my white 1M, the others are representative of what you'd see at the track. I left around 11:00 a.m. and the temperature was already hitting 95 degrees and rising. If they do this again next summer and you get a choice of sessions, try for the morning group!

I used to see that white 1M with the BABY M plate parked across from The Triangle back in the days.

Here's a last moment question, but worth asking- are helmets provided for use or should we bring our own? Seems silly to bring our own for a half day event if/when we have to fly into Austin to attend.
TIA

Yes, BMW has a huge selection of open face helmets (and helmet socks) for participants. I was going to bring mine, but there is no need to lug it around all day since they are provided.

Excellent thank you!

Any recommendations for dinner and/or lunch?

I had the afternoon session, and they had nibbles when we got there. Not a real lunch though. Then again, doing all this track stuff on an fully belly is probably a bad idea. They do serve dinner.

That makes sense. I'd see it parallel parked on my way to Central Market.

Great pics Texas F1. Glad to have seen you out there today and hope you smash the autocross! It was a blast spending time with my Austin friends.

M2's have been on the track with this program in the past, they're a hoot out there..

Carbon ceramic brakes are just better suited to a track like COTA with a 140 MPH+ straight into a hairpin on the backside and a 120+ straight into a hairpin on the frontside, and unfortunately they aren't an option on the M2... hence autocross only

Heading out for the morning session tomorrow. Really looking forward to this. Hoping to drive the m2 on the track. From comments here sounds like they do in some sessions but not others.

Cool! Just seeing this, otherwise I'd have said hello. I was the solo dude in a red t-shirt.

The event was a blast! I might have paid that price just for the hotlap. We were doing 100+, sideways, INCHES from the car ahead of us. Our instructor even had to pass the car ahead...
