TDI-Tuning Box
After yet more advice. Having mentioned previously that that I am concerned about the spun crank problem I have been looking at the TDI-Tuning Box company as it mentions untraceable (to an extent I am sure).
https://tdi-tuning.com/remap-vs-tune Anybody tried one as I have heard nothing but good things. I appreciate not as good as a remap but could be a solution?

I don't think it can be determined that you've had a tuning box on the car, but plenty folk think that raised boost pressures are logged in the ECU, and if Munich decide to dig a bit then they'd see that.
I've my doubts, and this certainly wouldn't be uncovered as per of routine servicing. The other issue is that fixing and attaching the harness for the S55 is pain in the ass, as the plugs you piggy back in to are in really awkward locations, compared to the other engines. So if you had an issue and got recovered to a dealer you'd struggle to remove it in a few minutes. I've seen Dyno results from them though and they do give you around 500bhp, so a decent boost, but not as good as a remap. Not sure the smoothness is as good either.

^^^ This - if I were you I'd consider BM3 and not mess with a tuning box which won't give as good results and is a real pain to fit and remove - with BM3 you can revert to stock and re-lock the ECU - of course nothing is completely undetectable if an expert goes looking but to me BM3 seems the best compromise... Had a box on my 35d but it always feels a bit of a coarse way to get results and I think the S55 deserves better! Personally not going to do BM3 for a while yet as my car is still under a year - may think again at some point - not after power gain at present, but sorting the start-up racket and improving the DCT map would be what I would do first...

I would avoid tuning boxes. I am probably going to get BM3 and stage 1 will be fine for me. Probably get some HEL lines and upgrade brake fluid / possibly pads as well. I am also concerned about SCH but it would appear car would go into limp mode. Litchfield apparently have a fix for the this which is on their website.
